My Palm IIIxe freezes up when it sits idle in the serial hotsync cradle or the serial hotsync cable that I also have. After anywhere from 2 to about 10 minutes of sitting connected to the hotsync cradle or cable, all I get is a blank screen, no buttons work. The only way to get it working again is to use the reset button at the back of the handheld. When it resets all my information is intact. The clock will show the time it locked up, and it then runs fine. The only time it locks-up/freezes is if it sits in the cradle or is attached to the cable.
I am running V. 3.5.3, anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

Setting in the cradle does put a load on the batteries in the Palm and it could be causing part of your problem. Since I am responding so late to your question, let me know if there has been any change.

Hey Doc,
Thanks for the info. There's been no change in the freezing problem since my first post. I did test leaving the Palm connected to the hotsync cable but without it attached to the computer. The Palm did not lock up.
After reading your comment it sounds like the battery drain situation may be the problem. The drain is enough to lock things up but not cause a loss of data.
Any ideas on how to correct this problem? Does anyone else have the same problem with there Palm IIIxe?

It sounds like the cradle is bad. I know that Palm has had a problem with defective (shorting) cradles on the Palm IIIc series. As you know the IIIc has a rechargeable battery and I have always assumed that it was a factor in the bad IIIc cradles. Lets see if you get any responses to your query re: Others users with similar problems. In the mean time I will email a contact at Palm Inc to see if she has heard of this problem.

I touched base with my contact and she does not know of an issue with the III cradle. Her suggestion is to leave the batteries out of the unit over night then reinstall the batteies and Hotsync.
