Hi there,
I'm trying to install windows media player version 7.1 for the Pocket PC and keep getting the following error message:
The connected device is not supported with this version of Windows Media Player.....
I have checked the microsoft site and found that this is the right version for my iPAQ 3660. I am running NT4 on my PC and have the latest version installed. I'm not sure where else to look, or if I've doing something wrong.
Help !!!!! Please .........

What version of pocketpc are you running on ipaq 3660? I suspect that it's been upgraded to pocketpc 2002. If that's the case, the WMP 7.1 does not work on 2002, you need to install the WMP 8 from the update CD that you used to update your ipaq.

Greetings;
What operating system are you using PPC2000 or 2002? Here is a link for a WMP update you might try that.

Hi, thanks for your responses. When I look up the Asset Viewer the info I have is: product id is Pocket PC, Model id iPAQ 3600, OS version 3.0, Product revision level 1.0
I have only had this iPAQ for a week now, and am trying to understand it all. I had bought it from a friend (although as new out of the box), and it had already had things installed on it.
I downloaded Activesync 3.5 as the cd only has version 3.1 so I don't know what other upgrades etc I need to do.
I'm not sure if this has made it more complicated or has helped !!
Should I think about upgrading it to Pocket PC 2002? Can I do that for this model?

I believe it means your ipaq has PocketPC 2002 on it. Your ipaq is a 3600 series, therefore it has already been upgraded from ppc 2000 to 2002. The only way to get a mediaplayer on it is to track down an upgrade CD and install WMP 8 from it. Unfortunately the wmp8 installer on MS site is an upgraded version, you can't install that one by itself either. Now an alternative is if you only want to use the mediaplayer to play MP3 files, you can install pocket DIVX instead, I think it's a better mp3 player anyway.

Hi AnswerDude,
Thank you so much for your help. I feel a little silly not knowing I have Pocket PC 2002 already installed. I would have thought this would have appeared in the Asset Viewer !!!
I took your advice and downloaded the Divx software. am playing my music now, it's great. I think I will stick to that for now as I only really need it for MP3, at least for now.
Thanks again,
