Anyone know if there is a CF GPS yet? I'd love to have the ability to use my Axim as a full color high-end GPS.

Go to ebay and you'll find a handfull of units wct097 02-27-2003, 08:15 AM Found several.... looks like the $150 range. Anyone have any experience with them? I'm wondering how badly it sucks the battery. Also, what mapping softwares are availible for the PocketPC? I'd like to get some Topo maps that work well with the GPS. If there was a software package that included both the topo and street level maps, that'd be great. Beholder95 02-27-2003, 09:56 PM My friend had a GPS unit for his visor, and it was ok but it wasn't that good because when you went into a car it couldnt' get a clear signal through the roof. So you want somethin liek this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3009458121&category=29848 if you follow that link you'll see that one is CF but the external antenna plugs into it and you can lay the antenna on yoru dash. I know someone tat has a Garmin one that plugs into his laptop, (the bright yellow ones) and it sits on his dash board and gets great service Just my 2 cents. I dont' have a GPS yet but I will be gettin one shortly. I just bought a new car and couldn't find one with a GPS in it ( i bought a 2000 audi) but thsi 150 bucks is really a good price for what you get. When car makers ask liek 1000 for a gps. inav 03-09-2003, 03:36 AM iNav has both a cable GPS receiver for the AXIM and a CF GPS card. http://store.yahoo.com/inavcorp-store/ bobbo 123 03-09-2003, 09:56 AM If you buy a GPS cf card for the Axim do you need to buy some kind of service contract? Or does it just work? Thanks inav 03-09-2003, 12:17 PM No, there is no service contract for the iGuidance software. The software is good forever... JP54 03-26-2003, 12:35 PM I bought a Pretec Compactflash GPS LP. About $150 retail. It comes bundled with Microsoft Streets & Trips, plus some voice navigation software(haven't loaded that yet, & don't remember the name). It took me a while to get everything working right, but now I'm very satisfied with it. The position on the map is usually a little behind where I am while moving, but at the speed I drive that's to be expected. Once I upgraded the server software the time to first fix improved dramatically. It will take some time to get used to working with the Streets & Trips maps, but it is still useful as it is.
