Yeah! I wrote to them about this. We should at least get a coupon for one. That is $200 savings.

I just wrote them again. I can't believe this. Of course the price would go down in time, but to get something free too.
I asked them for a coupon for a free camera.
Think I will get it?
pdc
yeah this blows, there was a massive price drop bigger than I expected (maybe I am just too naive) and now they get extra goodies as well

Although I love my TT by now, I feel cheated as well by all this and very unhappy for the money I did spend for my company.
Either Palm or Veo or both must be desperate to allow such enormous erosion of margins to happen, even before they start selling substantially imporved versions.
I accept that prices happen to drop, and sometimes fast for these types of products but this is ridiculous. We were among the first buyers of TT, did stick out our necks, full of confidence, taking bugs and other problems with a straight face, had to go through updates and still have to contend with them and feel now that we have paid 100% more than what seems to be a normal realistic price just as well.
Let's suggest ALL potential buyers of the new versions to wait half a year, when the new versions will drop 50% or they will feel screwed as well. My mind would change if I would get a coupon but normally such things do not happen outside the USA anyway.

I will certainly not recommend tt to any who ask about it.
Like we said, of course, prices drop after a product has hit the market and I knew that when I paid nearly $500. but this is a $200 difference in a matter of a couple of months.

Also, most reputable store offer a refund if you find the same product for less within 30 days. so if anyone here bought their tt within the last 30 days, you may have a shot a getting some sort of rebate, like if you bought it at circut city or best buy.....try it

I suspect that Palm is offering the Veo as an incentive and doing its best to lower its Tungsten T inventory before releasing the Tungsten C later this month. (Just my opinion, K?)

i bought my TT on 2/28, do you think Palm will accept my receipt or do you think I should exchange my TT just to get a receipt dated after 3/1?

Has anyone used this device and even though it is free is the quality good enough to actually use this camera with the T/T?

jagz486 - You could always phone Palm and ask if they would honor the Veo promotion, since you purchased your TT only 1 day prior to their promotion. If their representative says "Yes", make sure you get that person's name and have them email a confirmation that you will receive the Veo. If they say "No", I would return the TT and then repurchase so that the receipt will be in-line with Palm's requirements.
Mochie - Here's the link to a pretty thorough review, including sample photos taken with the Veo:
http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=4701
It should answer all, or at least, most of your questions.

Man! This does indeed suck. Thank heavens for the extended warranty I purchased on my m515! I exchanged it for the T/T when it first came out (m515 had a battery issue...for those that might recall my plight many months back) and only had to pay about $170 or something like that for the T/T. Otherwise I'd feel TOTALLY hosed like some of you.... It really does suck that the T/T has come down so rapidly in price!

Well, palm denied my request for a coupon for a free veo. Anyone know where I can get one at the best price. I do think I would enjoy having one.
I did try. posted on a couple of forum and wrote to them. Yes, I did expect price to come down, but this was crazy!

Best price I could find is $81.37 from Provantage.com. Here's the link if you're interested:

It's a neat gadget! Not sure if I will be getting one yet.

Why do you think you would not get one now?
OH, I know, you are going to wait until the price comes down to $19.99 and comes with a free TT? Hahahahaha, I made myself laugh, sorry
But it is a good point.
Yes, that is the cheapest I have seen.
The link previously somewhere had sample of photos taken with it, but I could not seem them. Is there perhaps another sight with photo samples?

I just went back to my post, clicked the link, and the article appeared, including the pictures. Please try it again. If it still does not work, you can go to www.palminfocenter.com , click "Reviews" under "Main Menu" at the upper left of their home page, and then click the 12/3/2002 article "Review: Veo SD Photo Traveler." Maybe the direct menuing approach will work? ... Let me know if that works for you. In the mean time, I'll try to find another review for you.
I won't be getting one at this time because I have a great digital camera. For me to use the Veo would mean that I would have to carry it around with me at all times and swap out my SD card with the Veo whenever I wanted to take a picture. If I have to carry something for photos, I may as well just carry my digital camera with me and get a 5 megapixel shot rather than a 640x480. ... That said, I think the Veo is a great gadget and good at its designed purpose. If it drops into the $30-$40 range, I may get one, if only for the novelty. Of course, I would then kick myself a month later when it drops to $19.99, wouldn't I? :D

Thank, that was ALOT of good information. I still am not sure if once I take a picture, I can get it FROM my TT to my computer? Do you know? I looks like even tho it stores the picture on the TT, I can "send" it to the card, correct?
pdc
But again, maybe wait until it sells for $19.95 with a free TT!:D
OldBlue

The review says that the Veo software's default setting will store the picture from your TT to your PC during HotSync. It did not specify if it moved the picture files, thereby clearing the RAM in your TT, or if it copied the files, so that the images would be on both your PC and your TT. ... Knowing how slow hotsyncing of data can be with the USB cable cradle, I'm thinking a faster way would be to place your SD card in a card reader attached to your PC and just do a drag and drop. ... Please let me know when you get your Veo and what you think of it.

Well, I think it is just cute enough to purchase. What I have read does bother me. I don't want to be stuffing some piece of equipment down there that will eventually damage the "slot" Would like some more feedback from anyone who has used it for some amout of time
Anyone?

Man, I am so pissed off! I purchased this computer (below) back in 1989:
I'm going into my local Radio shack with a shotgun and demanding most of my money back!
Seriously though, the wonderful world of technology is ever evolving, and luckily price drops are commonplace. I purchased my TT Dec 31st, and have not looked back (First PDA, and am thrilled with what it can do). As an early adopter of technology, you have to expect that your purchase will always be had for less money six months or so after you bought it. In this case, it's just a little sooner. ...

This ploy by Palm is nothing new to Palm, or other companies.
With the two new devices released/ about to be released TC...
Palm is worrying about moving the inventory on TT.
This goes back to the Palm III series...through the m500 series,
and now the Tungsten series. Handhelds bought today, or tomorrow will always be followed by another with at least one more bell or whistle...thats the risk we take every time we invest $500 in the latest handheld. YES...I WISH I COULD ALSO BE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE A FREE CAMERA.
Palm has done this before, but usually NEVER as soon as it has done with the release of the TT.
This move by Palm also tells all of us the state of Palm OS handhelds...all companies are fighting for the few dollars available in this now drying economy. The Tungsten C is Palm's answer to the latest Sony Model. It never ends...and at the same time retailers have on hand inventory that needs moved, and Palm is obligated to help them move it...or the retailer will reduce volume bought per new Palm release.
It is an endless cycle.

I've had my Tungsten T for 3 months and 8 days now :-) I was surprised at the CDN$200 price decrease.. especially so soon. But like OldBlue says.. if I have to carry that little thing that takes awful pictures and I have to swap out my SD card.. I may as well just bring the digital camera and take really nice photos instead.
If i had gotten that Veo for free I'd probably end up selling that and buying myself a carry case or a keyboard :-)

I thought the veo was just a cute little gadget so I ordered it next day air. Should be here today, I'll give a report on it.
Thanks for the link on the best price of $81.00. That helped me justify the next day air...price came still alittle short of $99.

ok, here is the scoop.
The camera fits great in slot. No tugging, etc. Head swivels smoothly. Software looks pretty good. Since I got it after sunset, don't know about resolutino. The camera is "cute" has a "cute" little case that has a keychain loop.
pictures will syn to computer when done. The software is flexable and does other stuff, but I have not played iwth it much.
As far as "fit", it is great, sets just like a card, swivel head smooth, comes out easily.
After I have played with it in daylite, I'll let ya know. Not impressed with household lighting, but not experienced either.

The stars mean that someone rated the thread and did not find it useful or did not like it, since the thread only has one star. At the bottom right of the threads pages is a "Rate This Thread" option with a clickable drop-down box allowing the rater to choose from 1 to 5 stars. For more info, here is the link:
http://www.pdastreet.com/forums//misc.php?s=&action=faq&page=2#rate
How to rate a thread is towards the bottom of the web page, so you'll need to scroll down a bit.
OldBlue ..who personally thinks it's a pretty good thread and should be rated higher:D

Don't flame me and I hate to add to this, but I just purchased my TT from Staples for $379 with a free Palm ultra-thin keyboard and the free veo. I'd say that that was one heck of a deal.

Its not that I dont feel sorry for you guys, but I bought my m515 only in Sept. 02 for $379 (US) + the $40 (US) for the 32meg SD card, now the card is like $20 (US) and I have seen the unit for $209....I am a little sick about that too, but life goes on................
