Hello,
I have a Palm m505 and I'm thinking of buying the Sony Ericsson P800. I need a triband phone as I travel a lot and live in the Philippines most of the time and I'd like to cut to 1 thing to carry around instead of both my Cell phone and Palm. So I really have two questions. The first does anyone know if I can transfer ALL my information from my Palm to the P800. Second question is if anyone knows of a better phone that uses Palm OS that's also tri-Band,
Thank You in advance
Jack

Hi Jack,

I doubt there is any software out there that will easily transfer all your Palm info to the P800, given that the P800 is so new. The only way I can think of this being possible is to transfer all you Palm info to platform-independent file formats, then see what the P800 desktop integration software can do in terms of file conversion. Perhaps then the better question would be (to existing owners of a P800 - I'm afraid I'm not one) - "What file conversion options does the P800 desktop integration software have?"

With regard to triband PalmOS phones, you'd be better off asking that question in the Palm forums here at pdastreet (apologies if you already have done ;))

I think it will b easier than you might imagine. The P800 uses SyncML for both local synchronization (for example, with a PC using Bluetooth or a cable connection) and remote synchronisation over HTTP.

That is why Ericsson, along with IBM, Lotus,
Motorola, Matsushita, Nokia, Palm Inc., Psion and Starfish Software, founded the SyncML
initiative in February 2000. Supported by more than 600 software and hardware developers, the
SyncML initiative seeks to develop and promote a globally open standard for remote
synchronization, called SyncML. Unlike many other synchronization platforms, SyncML is an
open industry specification that offers universal interoperability. Because it uses a common
language, called XML, for specifying the messages that synchronize devices and applications,
SyncML has been called the only truly future-proof platform for enabling reliable and immediate
update of data. The benefit for the end user is that SyncML can be used almost anywhere and in
a wide variety of devices, regardless of application or operating system.

It should be easy.

I'm aware of the SyncML initiative, but I didn't know the P800 used it - this is excellent news :)

The question is, does the m505 support it?

If you have been syncing your info with MS outlook, then your contacts, appointments, and I think Notes (will sync with jotter) will also sync with the phone. However, the 3rd party programs in Palm will not work with the P800. BUT, if you are using Mobibook (www.mobipocket.com) to read ebooks, enews, go to their site...they have the program ported to the P800 so you can read the ebooks, enews that you have in Palm (using Mobibook) and read them in your P800, too.
I am using both devices (Tungsten T and P800) because as a physician, I have so many medical programs in the Palm that I still need to use both devices. Good thing is, since I use MS outlook to sync with both devices, the changes I make on one will show up in the other.
