Palm has just released the Tungsten W. Its operating on OS 4.1. What's up with that? This is not the first time either. Sony released its new SJ-33 running 4.1 as well. What is going on?

What is going on? ebisix 03-04-2003, 07:47 PM OS 5 is only for the models with the top specifications such as processor speed. This is simply what I speculate though. tuffguy 03-04-2003, 10:47 PM So what you are saying ebisix, is that Palm's new Tungsten W with its $550 price tag is not a high end unit. Am I understanding that correctly? If the W isn't on Palm's high end, could you please tell me which units are? brjdad 03-07-2003, 11:12 AM OS 5.0 is for ARM-based processors. The Tungsten-W is the older Dragonball processor, while the Tungsten-T is an ARM-based processor (TI OMAPI510). ebisix 03-07-2003, 08:53 PM I didn't quite use the right words to say what I meant. It's fixed now though. Thanks. Red_Five 03-17-2003, 01:55 PM The reason, it seems is to make the battery last as long as possible. Seeing as how the T/W is a communicator, not just a pure PDA, the battery life is already being stretched to the limit. It seems logical to make this an OS4.x device, running on a Dragonball CPU, as this chip isn't quite so power hungry. Kinda makes sense, doesn't it? PDA Street
