(This will help others considering a purchase as well
Treo 270 vs 300:
Which one shall I buy?: I have reviewed many aspects of both and here are my comments...please help me out as I have to recommend a choice to a cusotmer. (I own a Palm VX)
Money:
Treo 300:
I visited Best Buy just to look at the unit...They only sell the Treo 300. Price is 499.00 less $125 instant savings - $50 mail in rebate from Sprint ...total $324.00. $125 off is available till 3/26, I believe.
Total cost for purchase is unit (499.99 plus 1-cradle (49.99) less $125.00 Best buy discount less $50 Sprint mail in rebate = 374.98 (not included Fla sales tax for unit) (Car lighter is included with Treo 300)
From Handspring...you can get only $100 off, $50 from Handspring, $50 from Sprint. Check that out yesterday.
Treo 270:
Cost is 499.00. There is an $100 discount from Handspring now in place. Total cost for unit (499.99) plus 1 - optional cradle (49.99) plus 1 - car lighter (29.99) less $100 discount is: $479.97.
So you see there is abouit $100 difference between the units. This it is a one time cost, the monthly charges and other services (speed etc) are important factors, not the initial cost, in my opinion.
Network:
Treo 300: CDMA from Sprint. Only US service. Mexico Ok and part of SA. Sprint says Puerto Rico is also covered? My customer wants to know if Bimini and Bahamas are also covered? Anyone know?
Sprint has infinite time on Web service use after you payt he minimum $10 fee.
Compared to TMobile (for Treo 270), for the same minutes, Data (web) service is about $5 more with Sprint per month, but Sprint has no limit on data downloads per month. Example:
T-Mobile 600 Minutes with 10MB data: 39.99 plus 19.99=59.98
Sprint: 600 minutes plus Web PCS data(unlimited) : $55 plus 10= 65.00.
Treo 270: GPRS, GSM compatible, which means I can use it Europe as well as the US. I was not able to determine if Mexico, Puerto Rico, South America and Bimini, Bahamas service is available.
Question: I heard that Treo 300 with Sprint has faster per formance compared to T-Mobile Web Server? Can anyone verify this?
Both units has Internet / EMAIL on line at all times.
All other aspects between the two units are identical, as far as I can see.
Accessories:
Treo 300:
Comes with: USB Cable, Charger, Car lighter adapter for charging, hands free headset
NO Cradle (49.99) , No travel charger kit with spare charge (39.99).
Treo 270:
Comes with: USB Cables, Charger. Hands free headset
No Crade (49.99) , no car lighter adapter (29.99) , no travel charger kit with spare charger ($34.99)
No Cradle (49.99), No Car lighter adapter:
HOpe I hear some good comments on the performance between the units...
