I have an Ipaq 3835 and am having a problem. In the lower right corner of my screen, it shows that I am connected to USB when I am not. I try disconnecting, and it just spins the color pie chart until I finally give up and click hide status. My computer will not recognize my ipaq on its cradle now. I get a message telling me that there is a malfunction with my device (When I try to sync with my active sync, it gives me a status of disconnected and won't make a connection). I have a lot of addresses and phone numbers, etc... stored on my pda that I have not synced and am hoping I don't have to do a hard reset to correct this. Has anyone heard of this problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Have you try "soft" reset your ipaq?

I haven't tried any reset. I am pretty much an amatuar with this, so please bare with me. What are my consequences for doing a soft reset? Will I lose my data? If not, I will be sure to give this a try. 1 more thing... how do I do a soft reset? Is that where I hold the button at the bottom of the pda? Thanks for your reply!

From Compaq:

When resetting the iPAQ, please do not hold down the reset button for more than 2 seconds otherwise your data in the RAM may be erased.

To perform a soft reset on the iPAQ please do the following:

1. The power must be on.
2. Look along curved bottom edge
3. Look at to right of cradle docking connector
(If viewed from either the front or with screen pointing up)
4. Locate small round hole
5. Use the tip of the stylus to press the recessed reset button.
6. The device will automatically restart.

A normal reset if done properly will not erase data stored in RAM.

yes, most software are not perfect even on pocketpc. Sometime they behave badly. Soft reset is just like restarting your desktop. It will fix many problems.
