Since the 802.11g standard has not been ratified yet, I would be careful about buying any device that says it is 802.11g. You will need to make sure that they are going to offer the upgrade to 802.11g (for free) before purchase. The standard for 802.11g is based on a different modulation scheme (OFDM) at 2.4 GHz and it is supposed to have backward compatibility to 802.11b. BUT that can only be guaranteed once interoperatbility testing begins. And WiFi will not begin that testing until after the standard is ratified.

I don't think any manufacturer will release a product in this time that would not be fully compliant to the present standard of 802.11b. The problem you may run into is will the 802.11g portion interoperate with other manufacturers cards right now. I doubt it.

I work for a wireless manufacturer who sells both 802.11 frequency hopping cards and 802.11b devices.

My 2 cents.
