Can anyone save me from either ripping my hair out or chucking my laptop out the window?

Basically, I've got a Revoplus that will chat happily to my work PC under Win2000 and also did to my home PC with Win98. Bought new laptop with WinXP (yes I know..! but they all come supplied with it now) and no serial port so bought a Belkin external hub with extra USBs, PS2 ports, a parallel & a serial port). Loaded Belkin XP drivers and PsiWin 2.3.3 and eventually got the comm port (4) to connect to the Psion at speed 9600.

No problem until the laptop died and was replaced by a slightly different spec machine but same make & XP. Loaded all software for hub & Psion on new PC and I cannot get the thing to work both ways. Hyperterminal test checks out OK - see, I've done my homework.... ;) - I even phoned Psion at their extortionate help-line rates! I've uninstalled and re-installed until I'm blue in the face, I've tried every speed setting (synchronised on Revo, Comm 4 & PsiWin) but still the result is the same...and it's an odd one too.

The PC sends to the Revo which duly responds with a cute wiggly line on the connection screen - aha! you think, success....but no. The PC subbornly refuses to recognise greetings from the Revo. It's got to be something in either PsiWin or XP - but what!?

Any ideas (other than paying £30 for a serial/USB cable from Psion)..........?

Try uninstalling PsiWin, run the 'registry cleaner' [which you can download from the Series 5(mx) page of my website - last item on that page] then reinstall PsiWin.

On the Revo, delete the "PsiWin.ini" file in the C:\System\ folder and then perform a "soft" reset for good measure!

See if you then have more success :)

I have just read a posting in the newsgroups from somone who found he could only get PsiWin to connect if he was logged on to Win XP with Administrator rights! Might be worth checking if you don't always run XP with admin rights.
