Anyone know how to get a .wav file to save onto the clie to be used as an alarm?
I was trying to use the sound converter to get some .wav sounds into my clie nr70v and use them as custom alarms.
After much hassel I found a message that said saving the .wav format in 22khz, 8bit mono would allow sound converter to handle it.
Now I can get a .wav file onto my clie.
BUT it appears that what is saved onto the clie is PCM format while all the sounds that are acceptable for alarms are SMF format.
So I was wondering if there was a way to save/convert the .wav/PCM format into the SMF format?

So far I know, SMF stands for Standard MIDI File. There is as much difference between MIDI and WAV as between a bitmap image and a vectorial drawings... While you can easy get a bitmap from a vectorial drawing (hence a PCM sound sampled from the output of a midi file), it's quite difficult to get it the other way.
If I really understood that, the only way to get PCM sounds on the Clié (except specific development) is to store it as MP3. But as you know, you can't assign an MP3 file to an alarm sound :(
My two cents...

Thanks,
That is what I have also found. Was just wondering if someone had found a majic piece of software that would do the conversion. ;)
This is virtually impossible to do ... a quick search of your favorite Windows download web site will turn up quite a few attempts at this type of program that don't work.
Probably your only option would be to find a MIDI composer program and create the MIDI file yourself, or make friends with a composer or musician to do it for you.

On your Clie CD there's a "Sound Converter" and I've used a bunch of sounds in Windows Media and converted. My Office '97 has, I believe wave files, that can be converted and sent to your hotsync and installed to your Clie Sound Utility which installs files to your OEM alarms.

JimRoad,
I've used that program to convert some .wav files. The problem is that these sound files are not selectable as alarm options (at least in datebook 5). They show up and can be played on the sound utility on my clie but say they are a different file type to the sound that are selectable as alarms.
