I have heard a lot about "infrared" browsing...ifI buy something for this is there still a monthly plan or does it work off the ISP at my house as long as im near my house? THanks.

Ok... well there are many things that you could be talking about...
The first, a infared modem, this acts just like a normal modem, u must plug it into a phone outlet and you must have an isp inorder to log on. 56k connection

The other is a wirelss modem, which is just like a reg modem, but must be used in conjunction with usually a cellphone service provider (ATT has a plan of $30 a month unlimited air time.... it will take some looking around on their website to find). But this will also take a PC expansion sleeve in order to use.
Equal to DSL connection

And finally there is 802.11b networking, which when used in conjunction with dsl will give your pda a int connection for about 200-500 ft around your house. However, for this you will need:

1. CF sleeve- $40
2. 802.11b network card- $80
3. Wireless router- $90-$100
4. DSL... Ive heard that there are some dial up routers... but I dont know how that works. $40-50 a month
DSL Speeds

i hope that this helps...please leave a resonse if it does

Thanks for the responce. I have a router in my house but its not wireless, ithink, id have to ask my dad.

I have been reading up on these and i have seen these cards such as the Socket Wireless LAN CF Card...you can use them in places like starbucks. My ???s are is there a monthly fee for using these and also can i use them without a wireless router? Thanks :)

Well... th socket card is that same a a network card that you would find in your desktop. So you will be tied down by a cord, and u must be near a network port... the same that your computer would use if you already have a wired network. But you will be able to go online... kinda pointless if you have a ipaq and it made for mobility. But there is no monthly fee other then the internet costs that you are already paying. I have never heard of a wired connection at starbucks, only wireless, but i can see how it is possible, i have only seen wireless connections. But then, if it is the same as the wireless version, then there will probably be a fee by the hour at a starbucks or other "hot spot"

And on a another not, im 14 so I know what you mean by havin to ask your parent about gettin the wireless network... my parents are techno-phobs. But if you get a wireless router instead of a wired one, then all that you would have to do is replace thw wired one with the wireless one, the wireless ones still have about 4 wired network ports. They also are only about 100 at the most.

I hope that this helps...

instead of the sync cable and cradle, is there a wireless sync that i can use around the house via infrared instead of connecting it to the desktop all the time?
