I've installed Tome Raider from the CD that came with my 5mx and it looks an interesting and useful program.
But, of course, it is only partly functional, with about a third of the chapters of the books I've tried to look at 'blanked out'
I see that, to get the full working version costs £15.
Anyone done this? Is it worth it? Any negative comments. I don't want to spend 15 quid on something which has limited use or problems.
All advice gratefully received.
Thanks

I use TomeRaider and find it quite satisfactory, although I'm not a heavy user of ebooks.
You can test the functionality of TR quite well from the trial version, so I think the main thing is to research to see what texts in your sphere of interest are available in TomeRaider format.
Perhaps members with experience of other ebook readers could join in with some comparisons here?

I was a great fan of Tomeraider when it first came out but since then I have two issues with it ...
1. I really object to having the software tied to my machine ID. I have registered TR for Windows Psion and Palm and I still get treated like a criminal!
2. I can't really find that much in the TR format that I want/need. Like Julie I don't read ebooks on my Psion so it's really only useful for reference data. However, if you are either happy with what is available or are going to create your own databases then go for it.
If I were you I would go for EBook for EPOC (http://www.geocities.com/ebookepoc/) instead - this does not read the Tomeraider proprietary format, it instead reads the widely-used Aportis (Palm) DOC (.PDB, .PRC, etc) format. Plus it is not tied to machine ID and has recently become freeware :)

I went to the Aportis E-Book Library link from the EBook for EPOC site and find it's no longer there - BrainForest has taken over - http://www.ultrasoft.com/BrainForest/ - and it looks to me as though whatever they have isn't going to be freeware, whenever they get around to updasting their site.

For lots of free ebooks in the Palm DOC format, check out http://www.memoware.com/ - a huge library. They also have lots of Tome Raider docs, if you decide to go that way. :)
Also, keep in mind that Ebook (the program) also supports basic text documents. For lots of public domain classics in text format, check out Project Gutenberg (http://promo.net/pg/), a group dedicated to making public domain lit available in digital format.
I use Ebook myself - I even paid for it back when it wasn't free. :) I tried Tome raider and it works well, but for what I use it for (ebook reading and referencing short tech documents, more than large reference texts) it was just overkill. Also, I need my reference docs available on either my Palm or my 7Book, when I swap my CF card from one to the other. Tome Raider docs have to be converted to a special Palm format to be readable on the Palm. With Palm doc format and Ebook, I can read the same docs on both my Palm and Psion, no problem.
Good luck with your choice!

Thanks for the advice, everyone.
Great forums ... everyone so helpful :) The great Psion PsUniverse!
I've downloaded Ebook, and it works just as well as Tome Raider ... (with only the occasional nag. It doesn't seem to be entirely free). Lots of texts for it, too.
So ... I don't think I'll fork out the money for Tome raider.
Thanx again.
Check the home page for Ebook - there's a registration code posted there to get rid of the nags ;)
