Hi,

I have set up my T68i modem profile in my Netbook, both with a CSD and GPRS settings. I have managed to connect with both successfully. My question is how much does the settings under "Advanced" affect the performance of the phone? I have seen some contraditory settings on the Internet. Naturally Mike McConnell's site is my first choice for settings, however I would love to hear what other T68i users have for their settings as follows:

Flow Control
Terminal detect
Carrier detect

Does anyone know of an optimum setting?

Thank you for reading this!

My phone is not a T68i, but a R520m, a functionally similar phone which generally seems to require the same settings.

For GPRS I have:

Flow control: Hardware
Terminal detect: Ticked
Carrier detect: Ticked

No idea whether these are "optimum" settings, but they work for me!

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the msg! Have tried CSD before as well? What is your setting?

Will be glad to hear from other Psioners!

p.s. I seem to feel the T68i connects faster thru GPRS with my Psion as compared to my old Siemens S45 (a good phone for its time btw), my observation is obviously not scientific and it could also be due to unoptimised settings I chose on my S45, both S45 and T68i are GPRS class 8.

CSD is not available on the network that I use here in the UK "CSD" (Circuit Switched Data) is the normal 9600bps GSM connection, not to be confused with HSCSD which is High Speed CSD :)

Thanks Mike - yes, I was completely confused there! :)

Koi Hin - my settings are the same for my GSM connection as I quoted for GPRS.

Thanks to both Mike and Julie for your replies!

Its a shame your network does not support HSCSD Julie, I have found it a very good alternative to GPRS connection, it also seems to give a more constant connection speed than GPRS here in Singapore. Also depending on your Internet usage pattern, I daresay you might find HSCSD a cheaper option too!

I've found exactly the same after changing from a S45 to the T681. Much better modem I feel.
Much more reliable GPRS connections with Voda UK.

Siemens never seemed to implement "Data" in their phones as effectively as (Sony)Ericsson and Nokia and even did strange things like supporting only "Fax Class I", which is unsuitable for Fax with GSM.
