Here's a tutorial on Installing Software on Your Pocket PC;

There's usually 2 ways of installing software. After you d/l the program it'll either be a exe that will launch the installer(or tell you it'll be installed next time you sync). If there's any prompts it's pretty self explanatory. One decision you'll have to make if you have an SD or CF memory card is to save it in main memory or on the card. The second way of installing is if you download a .cab file. In this case you'd copy it to a directory on the ipaq, then on the ipaq click on it and it'll install. The programmer will usually have directions for this.

You should use the search feature to look for answers to your questions. But for free software check out this thread:

Dear Olydus,

You wrote:

I have a 256K SD card for my Ipaq 3975. Can any program be installed to the card and run just as if it were in the Ipaq's main 64K of memory?

With my Palm -- some programs will run from the SD card and some won't.

The programs I've installed on the SD card operate fine. I wouldn't recommend installing anything that modifies the basic system to an SD card though(ie updates, navigation bars, skin tools,etc). If there's a read error on the card while running a program on the card 9 times out of 10 the program will just shut down with an error instead of asking if you want to retry.
