Palm dead?

After 2.5 years of problemless operation my Palm V won't hotsync anymore - the connection times out.

I have tried everything I can think of:
- reinstalled the software
- hard reset
- used 2 different known working cradles
- put my Palm in a friends cradle (attached to his computer which does not have my profile), hit the hotsync button and nothing happened.
- started Hyperterminal, pressed hotsync: no characters appear in the hyperterminal screen.

Does this mean the Palm is dead? Besides the hotsync problem it works just fine, but without hotsync it is of course quite useless.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?

I suspect you have checked the serial connector and found it to be clean. If not…. check with good eyes.
You could do the hot sync with IR if your PC has that feature. There are kits to add IR to a PC.

When you have the Palm in the cradle, have you tried to start the sync by tapping the HotSync logo on the Palm rather than the button on the cradle?
