I've recently purchased a Sony Clie s-360. I've already have two Palm III XE's and one Visor. Everybody was getting along but my new Sony. It could receive beams from the other devices but the Palm and Visor couldn't even see the Sony. No device was found was the statement. Called Sony and they said do a soft reset. If that didn't work do a hard reset. I tried both without success. Sony said to send it in. I decided to return it to the store and get another as a straight exchange. Guess what? It did the same thing. Receiving was OK but beaming to a device didn't work. Sony said, oh well better send it in. Two different PDA's exhibiting the characteristics. They weren't very helpful. Anybody got any ideas?:(

Did the units both fail this test right out of the box or only after the addition of your applications and data?
Were you using any overclocking software?
How close were you holding the units?

PS: I am always sorry to hear about the bad attitude the SONY hired hands have.

I tried it both ways. Once out of the box without any 3rd party software and then again once fully loaded. I do use a overclock program but turned it off to test beaming. I placed the distance between 5 and 10 cm apart.

This borders on grasping at straws but many Palm OS devices will not beam if closer than 12-15 centimeters.

Overclocking can seriously disturb beaming, make sure it is totally turned off, and do a soft reset, also(duh) make sure the other handhelds have beam recieve on.:D

I agree that overclocking apps are a serious problem. And a soft reset should follow removal.
I have had this problem posted to me about four times in the last two weeks. In two cases the soft reset worked but in the other two there is no solution yet. These were all SONY units?

PS: There is an app called HackFinder that will tell you, by way of a memo file it creates, just what apps on your handheld (Palm OS) are doing what to the OS. It will list apps other than hacks if they are getting into the OS. A very useful tool.

All my Palm devices and visor get along its just that the Sonys cannot beam to them. They can receive beams, it's just that they can't transmit beams to the other palm enabled devices. I truly think that it is a compatiblitiy issue that visor and palm devices are not troubled with and Sony is being coy about.
