I would also appreciate receiving this information as I am trying to locate these type of cards for use in a netbook. Many thanks

Expansys have loads of these cards (last ever batch!), and they have just arrived in stock...

Having look at both the expansys UK and U.S. sites, I am having no luck finding LAN cards that work with the netbook. If anyone can direct me to the link or to an alternate source, I'd be appreciative. Many thanks
I've just been to expansys.co.uk - third link down on the left under the Search box is titled 'Psion, Symbian & Linux', Scroll down the resulting page...
I suggest going for a CombineIT model - the ones with the red logo on.

Thanks for the directions to where to find the cards. One perhaps stupid question: I noticed that the cards are listed referring to different countries (e.g., Germany, Finnish, Sweden, etc.). Does it matter which one I purchase for use on the netbook and will the 56K capabilities, regardless of card country, be able to be used in the U.S.? Many thanks
According to Expansys, the only difference is the language that the manuals are written in. Julie and I have a suspiscion however that the supplied cable may differ depending upon the telephone system used in the respective country - I'd suggest getting Expansys to confirm or deny this before you buy. In any case, if the plug doesn't match the phone socket in your country, I'm sure you'll be able to buy an adaptor.

Thanks for the "heads up". I'd contacted Expansys a fortnight ago but they were very pessimistic about getting any more of these cards in. I've now got one heading my way.

Actually, Expansys-U.S. sells a Psion RJ-11 cable as an accessory for any Psion country card allowing its use on the U.S. phone system

Well, the card arrived this morning - Expansys are quick. Opened the packaging - red CombineIT logo - check. Er...
Lan Global CardBus.
Bother.

Same problem here, got my card today, and its Cardbus, and it won't work.
That's despite being assured by Expansys via email that the cards were Netbook compatible (same as picture which shows PC Card).
I originally ordered the German one (my German is better than my Swedish!), but changed to the Swedish one when the German one went out of stock soon after arriving. There appears to be no difference other than the language.
Problem is I'm in Australia, how do I return this thing (shipping cost me more than the card (not to mention tax and customs clearance!)).

Thanks Julie,
But I don't think there's much of a market for PCMCIA network/modem cards anymore (other than to Netbook owners).
A quick look at the local Ebay indicates prices being bid ranging from 3-20 Aus dollars (~1-> 7.5 pounds).
The other device that might use one would be the ipaq, but it looks like it needs PC Card as well, not Cardbus.
I've sent an email to expansys, I'll see what they say. They should be making it perfectly clear on their web site that the cards they are selling are Cardbus, because it looks like most people who would buy these cards would be looking for PC Cards.

Apologies, I didn't fully take in your problem on first sight. I've just had a closer look at the Expansys ads for these cards and I see what you mean!! I think it is extremely ambiguous and misleading to say the least.
I'm sure they will accept the return, but it's hardly the point when you've had such high shipping costs to bear. In your situation I would be protesting vociferously. Problem is, it doesn't look to me as though they have any netBook-compatible cards to replace it with.

Wow
On the photo on expansys web page I can clearly see "PC Card" printed on the card, while Cardbus versions should have "Cardbus" instead. And since they assured you that the product is netBook compatible, bradm, I guess they would accept your returning it plus refund the shipping cost from your place to UK.
I think I'd cancel my order. I've ordered German card, and after having done that I suddenly got worried. I sent an email to them to ask if this is actually PCMCIA (as the photo indicates), telling I'd like to get PCMCIA and I wanted to make it sure. No reply, and the first batch of German card arrived, but they all went to other customers and I was still waiting for the stock. I sent another email inquiring the order status and asked again to confirm that this is actually PCMCIA. I've got a response quickly, they told me about the order status (still awaiting stock) but nothing about the bus type. Then I immediately sent the third email, 5days have passed since then and no reply yet.

Good news :),
I received a reply from expansys saying they will refund the shipping and purchase costs of the card and that this card is in stock and compatible:
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=60-0400
Its a Dacom card, so higher power consumption, and apparently won't work in a 7book, but should be OK in a genuine netbook. Be appreciated if anyone could verify this (also does anyone know if it comes with the modem cable, I seem to remember reading something somewhere that the Dacom cards don't come with the modem cable).
I still have to work out the return details, but I've got my fingers crossed. So, credit where credit's due, expansys do make mistakes, but they appear willing to correct them when they do.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Regards
Brad

After a small discussion with a sales person at Expansys, who insisted because the text said "Cardbus" I'd been sent the right card, she reluctantly agreed the picture might be misleading and put me through to a very nice person in their storeroom. He immediately put a Dacom Gold card to one side pending the return of the other card.
The Dacom was dispatched the day the old card got back to them (I used Special Delivery) and I am pleased to report it works in the netBook, both modem and LAN.
So here's one happy ending, at least.

I've just spoken to Expansys, and someone looked at the Swedish CombineIT cards and confirmed it does indeed say "CardBus".
So I cancelled the German CombineIT card that was holding up my order. I should recieve the Dacom 56K+10Mb card tomorrow, and will report if it works in my 7book (model 756). I will be posting to the following thread:
http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15459
Fingers crossed that I managed to convince the girl on the phone that they should update their website to indicate these CombineIT cards are CardBus...

Expansys DO have a bunch of these (Psion Dacom 56K/10MB) in at the mo. They are not the newer Combine IT cards but they will work in netBooks/7Books (mine is a 7Book (756)) and it works OK.
They can be a little hard rto find on the Expansys site
You can find it using the search box on the Expansys website by putting in the code '60-0400' and that will bring it up.

Based on my experience, here is one wired Ethernet card that doesn't work with my MalayBook, and one that does and is currently available for US$20/GBP15:
Does *not* work: "Psion 10Mb Ethernet Gold Card" (Expansys product code 60-6012)
http://www.expansys.us/product.asp?code=60-6012
*Does* work: "Psion 56K 10Mb Ethernet Gold Card UK Factory Reconditioned" (Expansys product code 60-0400)
http://www.expansys.us/product.asp?code=60-0400
Expansys says "This version only works in the UK." The card I received had an RJ-11 (USA) phone connector on the modem dongle, and a separate small RJ-11 to UK phone plug adapter. So it's perfectly usable in the USA as is, or anywhere else with your own RJ-11 to local phone plug adapter.
The descriptions on the Expansys.com (UK) and Expansys.us (USA) Web sites are confusing, the illustrations don't always match the actual products, and the compatibility listings are sometimes erroneous. Expansys staff do *not* know which products are compatible with which Psions. To avoid problems, check with other Psioneers for compatibility before ordering, and order by product code.
On the good side, Expansys cheerfully exchanged the incompatible (and incorrectly described) card, without quibble or charge. On the bad side, the incorrect description is still on their Web site.
