Got a USB BAFO irDA (supports winXP) for my Sony VAIO PCG-FX340 laptop recently. Installed without any problems; winXP recognise the device promptly. I enabled (ticked) the InfraRed in the Hotsync manager. I then switched on my Clie 760C and enabled the "IR to a PC/Handheld" in the Hotsync window. The laptop promptly detected the presence of the Clie.

However, when I tap the HotSync icon, it repeatedly gives this
message: "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application". From the HotSync manager setup, it indicates that I am using com 3 for local and com 1 for modem.

Can anybody advise please?

Thanks
Jeff

I had the same with my 625 (IR synching with a second computer) What may help if you switch OFF the option "Search for IR ... " in the IR contol box (tab: options). Otherwise the IR eye searches continually for IR signal and blocks the port (this is not specifically XP). Still occasionally I had to muck around with exiting Hotsync manager and then starting it up again, switching off IrDa and on again, restarting the computer etc. In the end I gave up and bought a USB/feeder cable, also because I found that IR synching is slow and quite a drain on the battery.
