I was looking at a good deal for a 256mb SanDisk SD card for my TT that comes with a portable USB adapter.

I was just about to purchase it online, but I remembered somebody saying that SanDisk SD cards are not as reliable as Lexar ones.

Lexar vs SanDisk... anybody have an opinion on this?

Any good deals out there for 256+ SD cards right now?:p

I have read that person's posts, too, and have conducted on-line searches, but have not been able to find any benchmark tests to verify his claim. He did not offer any documentation to back up his statement that Lexar and Panasonic are better than SanDisk.

Personally, for what it may be worth, I have used a SanDisk 32MB, a Viking Components 64MB, and 2 Sandisk 256 MB SD cards in my TT and have not noticed any differences in performance. I have met with other Palm users and have also not noticed any differences in their cards' performances.

I personally had a problem with the 256 mb sandisk. The lexar and viking work great and are a lot cheaper.

I returned my sandisk without a problem to bestbuy and bought two viking for the same price. That was a couple of months ago and the prices change fast. However, my 64mb sandisk, no considered a relick, works fine, it was the 256 that was completely inoperable. I have heard similar reports on the sandisk.

Here is some information from another forum.

ebisix, thank you for a great post! The link to the speed test results is very beneficial. I appreciate that information. ... Some of the forum posts are still opinions, but it's good to see a concensus. (btw, the 2nd link you provided returned a "Sorry, the page you requested was not found" message.)

Chulmo, this is probably after-the-fact, but www.thenerds.net is selling a Lexar 256 MB SD card for $64.67. Here's the link:

http://www.thenerds.net/productpage.asp?pn=460964

I guess I've been lucky with my SanDisk SD cards. I have not experienced any crashes, slow reads or writes, or incompatabilities. (Or, maybe they are present, but I don't know about them? ) ... Anyway, suffice to say that I have been and remain happy with my SanDisks.

You're welcome. I deleted the bad link.

Actually, there is much more stuff like this around the web. If you search this forum, the Brighthand forum or even Google you can find tons of information.

Hmmm, I guess I'm just lucky. A friend of mine recommended the SanDisk card to me and I bought the 256 mb version and have had no trouble at all.

I especially like the version with the convenient USB reader. It works great.

Thanks to all for the great responses...... :D

I guess I did the right thing by going with Lexar.

I got mine for 67.78 (FREE SHIPPING!) from buy.com!!

I saw a lot of other places that had it for much cheaper, but once you factor in the shipping costs, nothing could top the deal at buy.com...... highly recommended for anyone shopping for SD cards.:p

When is WIFI coming out for the TT

wtgreen, thank you for validating my experience with SanDisk SD cards. Mine have all worked perfectly and I have noticed no problems with speed.

ebisix, I did find a benchmark in one of the links you provided.

Chulmo, congratulations on your SD card! ... The WiFi SD cards, both the stand-alone version and the combo version with 256 MB, are supposed to be available around June of this year. Here's a link to one of many reports about this topic:

Just adding a tally mark to the SanDisk vote. I have a 64mb and a 256mb SanDisk SD cards. Both work fine for me. However, they could be slower than the Lexars, as I've never tried one before. They're slow, but I thought that was just part of the spec. Internal RAM is MUCH faster (as I think everyone knows), but that's the only comparison I can make.

Lexar Vs Sandisk:

IMHO I will not buy a Sandisk SD card (or product) again. I have a 32MB Sandisk that has always worked good so I got a 256MB SD card and expected the same performance, WRONG. I first tried installing some MP3's via hotsync, it took over an hour for 60MB then most of the songs just skipped thru or would not play at all. I then went to Bestbuy and purchased a "Sandisk" sd card reader/writer, the card was un readable. Even my Tungsten could not read the card. I figured this was just a onetime error so I returned it to the vendor where I bought it and was sent a new one, it did the same thing again. Now frustration turned to anger and I bought a Lexar 256MB that works flawlessly just so I could be certain that it was not my tungsten T's fault. Next I tried to get an answer from Sandisk and they said they have heard nothing about cards failing at all. I tried to get them to replace my card and they said that they would honor their their guarantee but said that it would take 30 day just to get an RMA number, then another 30 days to get a new card, basically they were telling me to go away as they have better things to do. I then returned the card to the online vendor again and they emailed me asking if I wanted a refund or another card. I said that I would prefer a card again if it was from a different batch than the last. They responded that they were refunding my money as they were having a "Significant" volume of returns of the same product for the same reasons. At this time my personal recomendation is to not be tempted by the lower price of the Sandisk cards as they may give you the same grief as I had.

PS: I even pitched the Sandisk reader/writer as I don't want their garbage to possibly damage my Lexar card.
