Allright,

I recently upgraded from my ancient Casio Cassiopeia to the Palm m130.

I would love to be able to check my emails (and maybe browse the web) with it when I am on tour.

I think I have all the software required for it, but my cell phone doesn't seem to be suitable for it (Nokia 7190).

My Questions:

- What type of cell phone is required ?
- What additional hardware might I need ?

Note: I do not want to use a PalmModem or similar, expensive equipment.

Please Help !

1) You need to see if your cell phone is capable of receiving data and is enabled to do so.

2) You will need some way to connect the Palm to the phone. There are three ways that I can think of.
-Buy a cable from a site like http://www.thesupplynet.com
-Use Bluetooth if your phone and Palm have it.
-Use infrared if your phone and Palm have it.

Yes, thank you. I just found that out. The Cell phone needs to be GPRS compatible and I have to subscribe to a special GRPS plan in order to use it.

Not necessarily... that depends on your phone service provider and your Internet provider. I use T-Mobile and Earthlink, and I use the phone's internal modem (it's a Motorola p280) to just dial up like I do on my PC at home. As long as your phone service plan includes the ability to send/receive data (SMS, fax, etc.) and your Internet provider has a regular dial-up access number, you should be able to do what you want to do for no extra charge beyond minutes used on the phone. www.mywirelesspalm.com has great instructions for a few PDA/phone combinations.

Palm m125/Motorola p280
Visor Deluxe/Nokia 8290
m125 + Nokia also works

I use a Motorola T720 (data capable), my Earthlink dial-up with an m130. Cable from the Supplynet. Applications on Palm, Eudora and Eudora Web, also MsgAgent. All FREE. Eudora will work from the expansion card.

Just configure your Network and Connections preferences. I have used it recently while in Nevada and Texas. My phone is on a long distance plan, so I can dial the regular dialup for the assigned area code for my number.

It works GREAT!!! Just learn to compose and reply while you are NOT connected as to not to waste time & $. For a high volume, downloading headers only works fine for me. I just download what I want/need to read. Always leave messages on your server... ;)
