My Psion 5mx screen no longer registers any input. The display and backlights are fine, but I can't launch any programs using the application bar at the bottom, nor does any taps on the screen registers.
I've been navigating strictly with the keyboard and of course 'Calligrapher' is a total lost.
Anyone have this happen to them (just from age of product) and anyone know what parts may need replacing?
Also, this looks like a repair job...besides psionUSA, are there any other repair services in the US?
I've been very happy with the Psion for the last 4 years (a series 5 and then a 5mx)...
Thanks!

I know that there is an independent service and repair centre in Toronto, which comes very highly recommended. Wrong country, I know, but would that be a possible option? If so, please post again and I will dig out some detail for you. I have a personal friend who uses their services and knows them well.
As far as I know they are happy to deal by mail.

Hello there,
Before you do anything else, back up your data either to a desktop PC or a CF card.
Once that is done, perform a soft reset by sticking a paperclip in to the recessed, brass colored button found in the backup battery compartment. If that fails to clear your problem, perform a hard reset by removing all the batteries, both the AA and the backup, and let the unit sit uncharged for a period of time not less than half an hour. Longer, like overnight, would be better.
If this does not fix your problem then you do have hardware failure and it will require repair or replacement.
I had the exact same problem you describe on my MC218 a few years back. A hard reset cured the problem.
Good luck,

You can also hard reset by pressing the reset button as with the soft reset, but, instead of simply pressing "Esc" to turn the unit back on, hold down both shift keys when you press the "Esc" key, if I remember correctly.
check my FAQ (URL below) for a complete list of the available types of reset.

Certainly sounds like it's in need of attention! :( I would recommend POS for repair services:

Hope you get it sorted.
