Hi,

What was bound to happen - happened (Thanks Murphy).
After installing a new battery into my iPaq, I am unable to restore my backup back to the iPaq.
Message from Active Sync:
"The selected backup file was created from a different type of mobile device"

I took precautions by reading the PC Counselors tip on how to repair this by use of a Hex/Bin Editor.
http://www.pc-counselor.8m.com/How_to/how_to__pc_counselor.htm#backup1
He says:
"3. Go to line 0x000830 (or 000830, I'm not sure how it is referenced)
4. Go to the 5th column in the line and change "0600" to "0800" and save as a BIN."

Well, I go there and I find '01' (two digits !)

My questions:

I can't find 0600. Where is it ?
Is 0600 hex or dec ?

Or does anybody out there can help me in a different way ?
I am getting desperate !

Thanks for your help
Thomas

Maybe this can help you without having to go through those steps:

Well, that didn't help. I have an ipaq3660.
The patch you suggest is when having to restore to a different Rom version. Anybody else maybe ?

Well, after hours of searching old discussion forums I found the solution. Regional settings have to match the former ones.
I am a happy man again.

Freaky - I just went through the same panic. I'd left my iPAQ in the draw for a couple of weeks, came back to it and found it had NO data on it (I find it totally amazing that a technology company can design a device and not put a backup battery into it).

Went to restore my diligently backuped data and AHHH - got the same error message as you. Hit Google and found your post, for which I'm really grateful - just sorry you went through the pain of it.

I was a fan of the iPAQ, I was luckily enough to get one of the first models, but as time goes by and basic, shocking experiences like this occur, I'm seriously

Thanks for posting the update once you had the solution.
