Dear All,
I have been successfully using my Psion 5mx with a Siemens S25 to email via infra-red into a Compuserve classic account. I recently had to change my phone to a Samsung SGH-A300, and I can't find a successful combination of modem settings (the manual recommends Rockwell 14.4).
Has anyone made this combination of 5mx and Samsung work?
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.
Martin

I don't have settings specifically for that phone but try starting off from basics with something like:
------------------
Name - Samsung
Speed - 57600
Connect - Infrared
Fax Class - Auto
------------------
Init (reset) - ATZ (or try AT&F)
Data - (blank)
Fax - (blank)
------------------
Flow - Hardware (RTS/CTS)
Terminal (DSR/DTR) [ ] not checked (but also try [X] checked)
Carrier (DCD) [ ] not checked
Type - Mobile
------------------
If it times out without dialling, change the 'Type' above from Mobile to Fixed line.

Dear Mike,
Thanks for your help. Your settings work, using ATZ as the Init string. Unchecking the Terminal and Carrier detect options seemed to be the key to fixing the problem. Modem type is set to "Mobile".
Do you have any wise tips for getting the 5mx to send faxes? I can get it to ring the fax machine, send the date and sender's details as a header, and print the first few pixels of the body of the fax before the fax machine shows "line error" and the Psion shows a -139 error.
Regards,
Martin

That's a strange one, normally it either works or it doesn't. Open the "Comms" application and find out which fax classes are supported - type AT+FCLASS=? press Enter and the modem should respond with the supported classes. It will show a series of numbers such as 0,1,2 and if "2" is present, set the Fax Class in Control Panel / Modems to "2" instead of "Auto".
If you create the file path C:\Logs\Fax\ there will be a Faxlog.txt file in the Fax folder after the next attempt which might give a clue. But be aware that there are some fax combinations that just don't work.
I can send a fax with my Psion and an Ericsson phone and retrieve it with a fax program on the PC, but if I do it the other way around, the Psion says the incoming call wasn't a fax call. You might get a different result sending to a different fax machine.
