Can't read .dat attachments from pop3 account [Archive]

I have a pocket pc with a Merlin C201 wireless modem. When I receive my email from a pop3 server the attachments are received as .dat files and cannot be read. If I receive the same attachment through my connection to my laptop I can read them. Need Help?
