While I am exceedingly pleased with the product, the one headache I'm having is that it hangs from time to time and I have to reboot the phone. Sprint support hasn't been of any assistance.

The only reboot procedure I've found so far is to reset the phone to the factory default, which is a bit of a pain. Has anyone else experienced this? More importantly, does anyone know a simpler procedure? Is there something I missed in the manual?

Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

To answer your question about a simple solution, you normally would only have to do a soft reset. A soft reset is performed when you use your stylus to push in the gray rubber button on the bottom of the phone, or can be chosen from the drop down menu (only if the device is not frozen). It sounds to me that you are performing a hard reset (restoring factory default), which is essentially done the same way as a soft reset with the addtion of pressing the power button (once reset you will be asked if you want to delete all of the data from the phone). You want to refrain from doing this unless you REALLY need to, especially if you have voice dial entries. BUT, you shouldn't have to perform resets while under normal use, especially with only the default programs that came with the phone....so, I have a question:

Have you installed any third party software on your i330? Due to the specialized format of the Palm OS installed on the i330, you will sometimes encounter conflicts from third party software. Some of which will cause great big headaches, hard reset, while others will only cause you to have to do a soft reset.

If you haven't installed any third party programs on your device, you might have a defect, and may want to take it back to the Sprint store, if that is where you bought it, for a replacement. If you ordered it from the web site, you will have to send it back to them since you can not return it to a local store. There have been some i330's that are total flops from the factory.

I hope you can solve the problem, since they are a nice device when they are working properly.

Best Regards,

Jason

Thank you for the thought-out reponse - will advise as to what happens. One other thing: are repeated soft resets harmful to the device?

In theory, no. However, if your device freezes in the middle of saving data or accessing a database and you have to restart, there is a chance that the database being accessed could become corrupt. This, depending on what kind of database, could cause problems, however, more than likely all you will have to do is replace the database.

Then again, you should not have to reset on a regular basis.

I find the i330 locks up if you leave it "connected" Be sure to go into Blaser or app of choice and do a "disconnect". I have heard issues on the i300 that the auto disconnect does not work properly and the idea is the issue has carried over to the i330. I stopped used using the auto disconnect and started using a manual disconnect and the locks have all but gone away. Now with that being said I would almost take the lockups over my current problem. The phone has decided it does not want to connect to the net on the 3G system. Sprint has been working on this for 3 days and they can not figure out why. Oh make that 4 days. Just spoke to them and they still have no idea. So, for those that get these annoying data calls be glad you at get them because I must say I am really missing them at this point.

Jason was correct - evidently, I was experiencing a conflict with Splash ID, which they sorted out for me and have not had a problem since. Also, I think you're right, too - you need to close out of the browser manually rather than relying on the automatic log out feature. Thanks for all the help.

Yes,

The i330 has onboard network bugs that carried over from the i300 and are usually encountered with third party email programs, browsers other than Blazer, PQA's, and other internet related applications. I personally have not encountered any problems with Blazer automatically disconnecting from the Vision service upon exiting but have experienced problems with email programs performing this feature. I have also run into problems when email programs and such try to connect to the network automatically, I too have found the solution to be to manually connect to Vision and manually disconnect.

With my experience, I haven't had any problems with Blazer automatically disconnecting, probably because it was written to work around or with the bugs, but there is nothing wrong with being too careful.

Glad you found your problem.

Best Regards,

Jason

This is kind of a dumb question, but how do you do a manual disconnect? I have just been turning off the phone.

So far as I know, while you're in the browser mode, select "Disconnect" from the drop down menu in "Options," or do the short cut (right-leaning bottom to top short slash + "D" in the graffiti area). Hope this is accurate and helpful.
