I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but in the past few days PsiWin 2.3.3 has stopped synchronizing and copying on my desktops. Which is primarily what I use my netbook for-- synchronizing and converting files back and forth. I'm running Win98 on both machines and I get an error message on one: "Explorer has caused an invalid page fault in module RPCRT4.DLL" and on the other it just says that it is unable to convert the file after attempting it for a few seconds.
Please help! Without this, my netbook is practically worthless.

PsiWin certainly doesn't have an expiry date and it may just be coincidence that both machines are being problematical. On the other hand, you might have a particular file in the netBook which is causing grief to both PCs.
If you can identify which file is causing the problem, this might help you decide what to do. For example, if it is a "Data" file, open a new blank Data file and merge in the old one. This might get rid of any corruption in the original file.
Another option is to uninstall PsiWin, run the registry cleaner (which you can download from the Series 5 page of my website) and reinstall PsiWin.

Hi Mike,
I did uninstall, wipe with reg-clean and re-install PsiWin 2.3.3 with the same results.
Should I try wiping it again and re-installing the old PsiWin I got on the original CD?

Possibly worth a try, although it doesn't explain why all of a sudden things have gone wrong with two PCs.
Have you installed any other applications in both PCs during the last day or two which could be causing a conflict?

It's probably just Windows. Isn't it always just Windows?

Well, just tried that too and I got the same invalid page fault in the module and had to restart the machine.
I'm trying to think of what I might have installed, except the two machines do not have all the same software. I'm wondering if I should wipe my PC clean, reformat and re-install (though I've heard that you shouldn't do that often). aaaaahhhhh......and I just did that about 2 months ago and everything was perfect!
Come to think of it, the only software I've been installing is on the Psion. RMR, pdf+, FIWorld 5, DCLFuel...., eSync 2000. I put on nConvert in an attempt to work around PsiWin.
Is there a PsiWin alternative?

It might be worth removing the applications you have recently installed in the Psion to see if that fixes it. Then install them individually again checking as you go if the fault has been reintroduced. The most recent application might well be the problem one.
It might be necessary to re-install Windows in the PC that is giving invalid page fault errors but that is probably a last resort. I've never heard that you shouldn't do a re-install too often.
There are alternatives to PsiWin for file transfers, but not if you need synchronization. I do all my file transfers and backups with a USB Compact Flash card reader. I copy my "C" drive to a folder on the CF and then copy the CF to a folder on the PC. For the occasional file transfer, Comms and Hyperterminal is useful.

How do I use Comms and Hyperterminal to transfer files? And will this convert EPOC Word files to MS Word files on the PC?
I am slowly working on the re-installing programs on the Psion portion.......

No, this will not convert anything. This is using simple communications programs at the most basic level and will let you transfer files between machines but that really is all. You can, of course still use PsiWin on a PC to convert files which have been transferred if you cannot use it directly to connect to the Psion. Similarly, something like "nConvert" can be used to convert the files on the Psion prior to transferring to PC.
------------------------------------------
Connecting a Psion and PC
with Comms and Hyperterminal
------------------------------------------
- On the PC, connect the Psion serial cable to a free
COM port and make sure no other application is using
the port.
- Connect the cable to the Psion and make sure the
"Link" (Ctrl-L in the System screen is set to "Off".)
- On the Psion, start the Comms application and in the
menus - "Tools / Communication settings", use these
settings:
-------------
Settings Tab
-------------
Use comms port - Serial port 0
Baud rate - 115200
Data bits - 8
Stop bits - 1
Parity - None
------------------
Handshaking Tab
------------------
RTS/CTS [X] checked, all others unchecked.
- Tap "OK" and the Psion is ready to connect to the PC.
- On the PC, open the Hyperterminal folder and double click
"Hypertrm.exe". Give the connection a name (Psion?), select
an icon and click "OK".
- In the "Connect to" dialog box, move to the bottom
(Connect using) line and set this to the COM port with the
Psion cable attached and click "OK".
- In the COM1 Properties dialog (or whichever COM number you
are using) enter settings to match the Psion's:
Bits per sec - 115200
Data bits - 8
Parity - None
Stop bits - 1
Flow control - Hardware
...and click "OK".
- You should now be connected with the Hyperterminal window
displayed. Characters typed on the PC should appear on the
Psion and characters typed on the Psion should appear on the PC.
------------------
Transferring Files
------------------
- On the Psion, tap the "Send file" button or from the menus -
"Transfer / Send file".
- In the "Send file" dialog, set the protocol to YModem (batch)
and navigate to the file to be sent. Tap "OK" to send the file.
- On the PC, in the Hyperterminal menus, select
"Transfer / Receive File", select the folder for the file to be
received, set the protocol to YModem and click "Receive". The
file should then be transferred from Psion to PC
- To transfer from PC to Psion, set Hyperterminal to send, then
the Psion to receive.
IMPORTANT - whichever machine (PC or Psion) is sending the file
must be actively sending before you select receive on the other
machine. If you set up the receiving machine to wait for a file
and try to send, the transfer will fail.
