Thanks

You cannot really call one of the Tungsten handhelds better than the other in my opinion. This is because one is a PDA while the other is a PDA and cell phone combined. It's difficult to compare them.

Yes, the price of the Palm Tungsten T is going down. No one can be completely sure why. There is a rumor of a new device called the Tungsten C. This may be the cause if the rumor is true.

Check out this link about the Tungsten C.

The Tungsten T is a better handheld computer than the Tungsten W. It has a faster processor and runs OS 5, unlike (disappointingly) the W.

The W is meant for users who wish to intergrate the Palm with their cell phone. Sadly, you cannot talk right into a Tungsten W, you have to use a headset.

Personally I love the TT but I'm disappointed by the TW. I think that Palm could have done a lot better.

maxintosh is right. Just for some figures

W
33Mhz dragonball processor
OS 4
Thus no mulitimedia support (mp3's etc)
Thumb Keyboard
Bigger

T
170Mhz (Clocked 144Mhz) Texas instument OMAP 1510 arm processor and 200Mhz DSP. (hopefully the DSP will be useful in future applications- as yet not that useful but nevertheless nesseccary for sund playback- but that another story!
OS 5
Multimedia support
Collapsable graffiti area.

In my opinion T is better than W even if you do need the wireless.
A TT + a bluetooth mobile is waaaay better than a W.

Certainly if you don't need the phone go for the TT no question. (IMHO!)

Maybe I'm biased?.........

I have a few things to say about the Tungsten C:D

A- IT'S ONLY A RUMOR
and
B-Look at the specs
TT & TC differences=

TC 400Mhz proccessor
TC WiFi
TC 32 Ram

TT Proper Graffiti area
TT half the price of the TC
TT Smaller

Okay so the proccessor is faster but that doesn't warrant twice the price unless of course you're desperate for WiFi or a nasty thumb keyboard.

I hear you say I'm biased! No of course I'm not.:D ;) :D ;) :) :p

Just to put the better processor in perspective- if you add the DSP and the OMAP processor in the TT together you get a grand total of 370Mhz clocked 344Mhz. Suddenly the difference pales!

I do have to admit though that the 200Mhz DSP in TT is of limited use at the present moment as Palm haven't updated the halsndlib to support mp3/ogg etc decoding in the DSP.

That and you can't really just go around adding megahertz :)
But combined, the performance of the DSP + OMAP 1510 are apprently faster that of the XScale processors alone. I think I read a comparison about the OMAP processors being compared with Intel's XScales and the OMAP just blew away the XScale in almost every test. I cannot remember where this URL is though :(
And this was a processor to processor test, without the DSP ;)
