I really do feel like a durn Caveman trying to figure out how to install stuff on this handheld. I got the Casio E-105 because a buddy had tons of stuff for it. I got it at a good deal ($150 plus another $40 for 128 megs of Flash) and was really excited. Since then, my buddy lost the disk he had with all the stuff for it and now I've been trying to figure it out by crusing the boards and downloading from different sites.

Guys, I'm about ready to chuck it out the window of a speeding ambulance!! (Oh yeah, I'm a Paramedic, so I really could do that!)

Anyways, out of all the forums I've been reading the past week, this one seems to be the best/most read and has, what seems to me, good advice. So, before I do something really stupid, could someone help me out? I have a lot of usless info on this thing and figure I need to do a HARD RESET. I have nothing of value on it and want to start again with the slate wiped clean. If ANY one out there would take pity on this confused idiot, I would be much abliged! I just want to put a few time killing games on it, maybe a few good apps that might help me out at work, maybe someting to listen to MP3's on and some sort of friggin new background..... That's all....

Have mercy..... LOL

Thanks and I hope to hear from someone that has a E 105 or knows PDA's... Because this one is kicking my butt! And I know it has a lot of potential. Sorry if I am acting silly, but I'm about at my wits end with this thing.

Well, there is nothing you can do about your problem so go ahead and chuck it out the ambulance window - but wait till you are going by my house :-)

I don't know much about your unit but the instruction book should tell you how to restore it to original. If you didn't get a book try going to casio.com and see if you can't find the manual online.

As for software you might try handango.com as they are casios main software source. Also if you can spend some time zdnet has a lot of stuff as well.

Trust others can give you more profitable comments.

And we can at least be glad we have the 105 and not the 100 model. We have 32 mb of ram rather than 16. Unfortunately we also have something that is getting older by the minute.

Our cpu is a MIPS R4000, so when you see software to download from here or Handango, or anywhere else, make sure it is MIPS compatiable or you are SOL. And then not all MIPS software will run.

I like to kill time too, luckily there are chess, checkers, backgammon games out there that run on our machines. If you are looking for super graphic killer type games...you are severely limited.

I don't listen to music much on mine, I mean why run out of power on a pocketpc for music when you can buy a $15 stereo radio which if you lose, isn't the end of the world.

A hard reset isn't a bad idea when it gets too confusing, and is simple to do. The best thing is just to install each program one at a time and make sure they work before installing others.

By the way, maybe this is a career thing. I'm a retired paramedic. Was a charter emt1 (national registry number less than 7000), then emt2 and paramedic a few years later. Retired after 20+ years of it back in '92'.

Cool beans, Richie! Then you know about some of the boring 'down' times I have in between calls! I decided on the Casio because I didn't want to lug around a laptop, and just wanted something that I could put a few things on that would have the others guys bugging me to see/use.

Also, I'm really looking to find some good resource stuff to load on my Casio that is Medical related. I think I found a few, just got to see it they will work. It'll be handy to look up drugs and such. Especially now that I've taken on a 2nd job working full time at the local Sheriffs Office in their new jail. I was hired on a few months back as a Deputy because of the rising numbers of incidents in the jail and it's been intresting. So, I really need the Casio more to help me with work than kill time nowadays!

Thanks for the shout back and I appreciate the time. Very cool that you did all that and actually retired from it rather than get burned out.... Too many of the good ones don't make it as far as you did. I've been doing this almost 9 years and it's still some of the most fun I've ever had. And now, with being a Deputy, even with the increase of the work load, I'm having a blast!

Keep on keeping on and talk to you soon.

ppc, and not much software is written for it directly, you may have some success if you find various databases and info from any of the internet web sites and convert them into a format that you can use on you Casio.

Nothing more than a straight text file when used with the pda's search feature is useful.

And I did get burnt out. The thrill of driving fast was replaced with moderate caution, wrestling crazed patients to the ground was replaced with restrained negotiation, the amazement of curious morbidity was replaced with ironic contempt.

I could no longer do what I could do in my 20s, or even my 30s, and found myself evolved and changed. I observed thousands of strange things, was involved in a variety of a thousand situations, and made a thousand decisions that forever changed someone's life.

I look back with both happy and sad memories, but am truly glad it is no longer a part of my active life

Richie, I totally understand and know what you are talking about... For me, so far, I haven't hit that point... I'm trying to guard against it and keep things going... But, only time will tell.... I've hit my mid-life crisis early by holding down 2 full time jobs (I'm working 13 out of 14 days now... EEK!) but I'm happier now than I have been in a long time...... I wonder how long that will last?! LOL

On the other hand.... Dude, I hit PAYDIRT! The guy that I was talking about found his CD and I have more things for the E-105 than I'll EVER be able to use... If you are intrested, I will send them to you, burn them to a CD, or whatever if you would like them... I mean, there are well over 200 different applications (games, utilities and such [but still no backgrounds that I can use!!!!!]) that seem to be working just fine..... Some you can use, others you just gotta pick through, but they are all tried and tested and I'm TOTALLY happy with them!

So, if you would like these, if nothing else but to add to your collection, let me know and I'd be more than happy to share them with you!

Again, my thanks for your time and contributions.... If there is anything I can ever do for you, please feel free to call... I'm a happy camper now and just want to help others out! :D

If you really want TONS of software for your E-105, it's gonna cost you.... let's say 10 bucks. Per ton.
Just try going to ebay.com, click on PDAs in the list, then type "Software" in the search box and you will see a whole bunsh of CDs full of software for about 5 - 10$. It's an auction website, so you have to bid (but noone buys software from there anyways - so you'll win). Let me assure you - there's plenty of software on any CD for MIPS processors (which you have).

OMG!!!

Well, I thought I had the hook up, but "this" has left me speechless!!! And that's not an easy thing to do!

Mucho thanks Okachirs!!! I went ahead and purchased it, I didn't even bother to bid! And Richie, that offer still stands, only now I can offer you over 2000! LOL
