I was thinking of getting one as a replacement for my psion which broke..I'd obviously have to add a keyboard but does anyone use them as word processor?
reading e-books would be the other major use - and perhaps transferring files from one pc to another...
I'm tempted just to get another psion but then I'm also suckered in by the potiential of these new pcs -
basically - can u get the same functionality of a psion on ur ipaq and more - or are they designed for totally different purposes?
thanks!

sorry, I've never really used a psion, except for in a store. I will tell you what I use my PDA for, however.
I listen to MP3s while working out, watch movies, read ebooks, play games, and do the GPS thing on trips.
I would love to be able to type with it, but it is missing a keyboard.

I use mine for limited typing. I have a targus stoaway keyboard. The proble isthe keys are that rubber crap like on calculators so it sometimes misses keys. If you really want to type get a foldable keyboard with good keys, they are about 60-90 bucks. That should let you type all you want.

Might be worth going on to ebay and see if there are any keyboards for the Ipaq - I've seen quote a few going for between £10-£40 - depending on the make and how many people are looking at that item at the time.

Correction: I have an IConcepts keyboard. The targus stoaway is very good.

Ive typed entire project on the thing. Its best to take notes on it though, you can add pictures and color cooridante with ease. I do have a targus keyboard, one of the nice ones, but i find myself just using the letter recognizer more, jut becasue it is fairly sinmpole to sue and I dont have to bring that extra accesory arround with me. It takes some getting used to but once you get it your writing like a pro, I still have troble with the recognizing of the letter "R" and "F" but thats just a small detail. But overall typing on the Ipaq is very easy, ive used it for typing soo often.. its great. And the best thing is that you could be typing and listening to MP3s at the same time, uts great.

I had a Psion 5MX and a Mako and they are in a box somewhere after getting my IPAQ. I have the Think Outside keyboard and have used it for all sorts of word processing including writing scientific articles. While having the extra keyboard makes it larger it is a real keyboard, better than on some notebooks. It has tons of other functionality as well, and it synchs very well over our network where I work. This lets me call our modem bank from anywhere and synch. I love it and it will let you do the wordprocessing you want. That said, you can also do it on a Palm OS with Wordsmith or Documents to go and a good external keyboard.
