I read and used the set-up at http://www.mikemcc.net/.
The psion connects fine to my phone - establishing a connection, but no data is transferrede?
On my Psion the browser says "Looking up host adress" undtil my timer stops the proces. When I stop the "connection" my phone tells me that I've got no data transferred.
My questions are this:
- can it be that series 5 can't use gprs?
- If it can - is there anybody out there who already had that experience?
I'm from Denmark, I use TDC as my tele provider, and I'm certain that everything works from at standard notebook. They won't support me when it comes to the psion :-)

I have to say that I have never seen any discussion about using a GPRS phone from an original Series 5 with Message Suite. That doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work, but all discussion and settings seem to relate to devices with the ER5 operating system.

There is also the "Mobile GPRS Update" file on my website which users have found to be necessary with some phones but, again, I suspect this runs under ER5 which has a different dialup to Message Suite. You could try it, as long as you backup first in case it totally messes up your system.

Kenneth, it was exactly the same with O2, my phone service provider here in the UK. "Epoc? Oh, it won't work with THAT" was the confident response. Thank goodness for forums such as this!

Well, it does work. I have a working GPRS set-up for my netBook and MC218 with an Ericsson R520m, which is a very similar phone to the T68 in terms of required settings. I haven't actually tried it on my S5 classic, so I will do so in a short while and report back.

Well, I fell at the first hurdle there, so to speak - the S5 won't accept the init string that I need in the modem settings - it's 6 characters too long!

AT+CGDCONT=1, "IP","mobile.o2.co.uk",""

I'm not sure there's any remedy for that, or alternative, so I don't think I can help any further on this topic, sorry. :(

Thank you for the fast respons.

I've already downloaded the GPRS update, and i went through psion.com yesterday to get all updates and drivers available, still no action on the web from my psion.

Maybe (I dont know) gprs are using the new adresses on the net, and perhaps series 5 aren't capable of working with that.
And it seems that series 5 does not have possiblity to run java.

Status:
My psion gets in contact with t68, calls the gprs and establish a connection, but then my browser keep on "Looking up host" and the phone transfers no data either ways.

I can use wap on the phone, get my email etc. but I would prefer working through my psion :-)

So I think I'm out of luck for now, - maybe I have to buy a new PDA...

Kenneth, I've enlisted some assistance on this topic, so I'm going to have another try with my S5, see if I can get any further. I'll report back.

In the meantime, you might like to check out:

There looks to be some useful advice there for GPRS with Epoc.

You're right in saying that Java can't be run on the S5. Really, if you like your Psion, I'd recommend you treat yourself to a 5mx before they go out of production. Apart from anything else, you'd love the extra speed!
