Has anyone seen this? Using the gernal settings I was exploring the various alias' for opera. I opened the help file and it only describes "Opera version 3.62 as compatible with Mozilla 4.71" There is no reference to IE 5.0 et al. Is this an ommission in the help file? Am I looking at an old help file?
Another Opera crash/bug which Diem may have diagnosed: I crash regularly with Kernel 3 problem when I query ebay web page? I can repeat it too.
I am using the latest build downloaded from the Tek site 9/02.

Hi Paul,
IE5.0 is the default setting so either this is an ommission or they thought everyone would know what this does (e.g. browse the internet really slowly and allow for anyone to hack your PC !! lol)
The Kernel problem you are experiencing can be caused by a couple of things although the main reason is space. What space do you have on your C: drive?. Opera uses alot of space when running and the more you have to spare the better. This is only used temporarily and will release on exiting. Best thing to do is keep you apps on CF as much as possible and to ensure all apps are closed before browsing.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the advice
I have had all my apps loaded on the 128mb cf card to minimize c drive consumption. I will try the fewest apps running tactic next.
My question regarding the help file pertained to the fact that it only referenced older versions of opera and does not reference all the choices on the menu. Is this an error in the help file?
While we are on the subject, any strategies for selecting alias'
using opera, ie mozilla, ie or opera? I just got a message about pre v5 ie not supporting something or other. I assume that would not happen if I chose opera as alias.
Does the wireless connection drop due to opera, epoc or lucent. Seems it times out in a very short time (60 seconds or so). Even with that inconvenience, the speed is very good. I won't use a modem again with this machine (unless there is absolutely no other choice).

Hi Paul,
Not sure about the help file. I assume this has not been fully updated since v3.62 as there have been many changes made over the last yr or so. I assume that on their next full release, Opera will address this (but not guarrantees!!)
Re the alias', I always use IE5.0 as I get the best compatibility with websites I use. If you get problems with this then I would try Opera next. Best thing to do is have a play and see how you get on. Because of the nature of Opera on ER5, you will never get 100% compatibility but they are working on it !!
Although I haven't fully got to grips with the Wireless connections (apart from IRDA to mobile phone), I cannot give you too much advice on your connection timing out. ER5 is pretty stable and I have not had too many connection problems using any of the in built internet applications. One thing you could check is your Ethernet / Internet connections as there is a stay on line limiting time if system is idle. try increasing this. If someone else is reading this then they may be able to offer some other advices re connection problems.
Regards
Si
yeah, on the ethernet control panel there's an entry for 'If idle, stay online for'. Increase this to make it keep the connection open, but bear in mind that the default is set low to conserve batteries.
regarding the kernel fault at the eBay search page - yes, I get exactly the same. I can only imagine there's a badly behaved Java app sitting there or some badly written Javascript that's eating RAM. Either way, the only workaround is not to visit that page - kinda makes eBay hard to use I know
