I have a netbook (Malay) and a cisco wireless card. my favoutite wifi location on the road requires entering a SSID and an encription key. My driver (std fit) seems to have no way to enter this information.

If I understand other posts correctly the NetstatRF is the only connection monitiring tool and this does not work with the cisco. i also wanted to try a peer to peer connection, again the cisco drive does not seem to support.

Am I correct in all the above and should I bite the bullet and buy an orinoco/lucnet card if so which works with the netbook?

I'm afraid you are correct with all the above (except that you can enter an SSID with the Cisco; that's about all the driver does let you do!) and you will need to go for a Lucent-based card. Check the compatibility list in my FAQ for some pointers.
