does the 3650 have BT or something? I'm too lazy to look it up now. Its nearly 4am here - when i should be sleeping.

i had an 8390 that would work thru IR, and a friend's T68m that was able to find my T. I never tried the T68i though.

Yes - the 3650 has BT, although I, too, am wondering if anyone has one.

GSM: Did you read the review of the 3650 at MobileBurn??? It brings up the issues I'd like to know about regarding BT and the 3650. Here's the link -> MobileBurn 3650 Review (http://mobile.burn.com/review.jsp?Id=230)

Very well done review by the way - and lots of good pics.

Oh its THIS phone.

The one with the weird buttons, weighs quite a bit, and its not that small either. I wonder how much this costs. My first impressions are: Its a phone with too many features. Supports MMC but no mention of SD.

It would be interesting if you could take pictures and put them on the T though.

It's an interesting phone, but honestly, I think that it's trying to do too much and thus adds to the size and weight of the device.

The Panasonic GD55 would be perfect if it had IR :)
Take a look at THIS picture. (http://praxis.jenova.net/random/mobile/gd55.jpg)

<snip>

Weight: 130g, Size: 130mm x 57mm x 26mm, 139cc volume
Triband GSM 900/1800/1900
4096 color display with 176x208 pixel resolution
MMS send and receive
Digital Camera image capture at 640x480 resolution
Video capture: 3GPP MP4 formats
4 MB internal dynamic memory with a MMC memory card slot for expansion.
Bluetooth, GPRS, HSCSD, Infrared port
Java support for downloading of new games and applications

[...]

And while the 3650 is really a phone, it offers a lot more than basic call functions. Unlike the Nokia 9200 Communicator series, which was basically a PDA with an integrated phone, the 3650 is a phone with advanced PDA like features. It can synchronize with MS Outlook on your laptop, for example. It has a full calendar/to-do client, and a very nice integrated SMS/MMS/Email client.

Actually - the 3650 is not much bigger than the famous 3390/5 seires. But the weight is actualy amazingly light. I too am wondering if SD will work, not just MMC. People I have spoken to say that it will send its photos to the tungsten, but if I recall, the tungsten only has an SMS client - and not any MMS facilities. I'm sure someone else knows more. Best Buy sales rep had one, so I got to play a little with it - it is taller than most phones, but it also has a much larger screen - so its nice. The camera is about the only thing I would use with my TT, since the Veo is a little lacking in its pic quality.

I have the 3650, bought it a few days ago and it works great.
I can bluetooth between my T/T and my Mac effortlessly. I beamed photos from T/T to the phone and iBook. I can beam from the iBook to the phone and vice versa. The phone reads .gif and .jpg and the T/T wouldn't recognize that format, but I took a pic on the built-in camera, bluetoothed it to my Mac, then installed via PhotoBase.
I had a little problem using the IR since Palm doesn't have a specific driver, but I was able to use the IR modem configuration and that worked fine for sms.
The phone's keyboard does take a little time. The review was good, but a little outdated. I have a bluetooth headset and it works, even for voice recognition. And the keypad has a blue backlight.
The reception is good and it's far less bulky and heavy than my friends' 7650. And with a leather carrying case, it's even less obtrusive than extra pocket pulge.
So far, I've been quite happy with it and it's synergy between the T/T and the Mac/

I stand corrected. I tried it again and was able to beam a photo from the phone to the T/T and a different image from PhotoBase to the phone via bluetooth and it worked fine. Still have to play around a bit on sizes and determining if there's any quality dropoff, but it's getting better and better. Cheers :)

If you like the Panasonic's, go see the GU87, that screen is every bit as good as my tungsten's.

Rand -> Thanks for the info - out of curiousity, which headset are you using? And my big, big BT Headset question - to make (via voice) or receive a call - do you have to touch the phone, or can you just press the button on your headset??? Can you use the T to dial and have it be on your BT headset - without touching the phone?? Lastly, have you done any data (e-mail, web) on your tungsten thru the BT to the 3650??

The 3650 will not accomadate an SD card. I tried it today, it doesn't fit. Does anyone know if there is any real difference (other than the thickness) in the two? if I was to make the SD fit in - is the connectors alienged the same, etc...???

I'm using the Nokia HDW-2 headphone. It allows voice dailing and auto answer, or you can push the button on the earpiece. But it seems only some b'tooth booms are voice-compatible. I've been told that SE ones aren't. I haven't tried a dialer from the T/T. With vice dial, don't need to. I haven't paired up the T/T/3650 for web content yet. Its wap 2.0, so it's much quicker than 1.2.
I've heard that there are non-Wap browsers available for the 9210 and it may be coming to the series 60 platform.

Ok, now I have a T|T and a 3650. So how do I get them to talk - there is now profile for download yet for the T|T.... Not sure what you mean. Have you paired the two? If you did that and have bluetooth on for both, just go to the file you wish to transfer and hit the send. You'll get a prompt on which medium to use, sms, infra-red, b'tooth, etc. Hit bluetooth and your paired devices come up. Pick which one(s) and send.

Finally got it all to talk, but my Jabra BT200 and the 3650 aren't quite friends yet. It will pair, but it doesn't actually do anything. Any suggestions??

SD have a built-in switchable slider on the side to prevent erasure or read -only function.
Your TT will accomodate MMC with your files jpegs from your 3650 without any problems (interchangeable on TT not on 3650)
I use both (MMC & SD) for my still camera and SD for my TT ,But You can view jpegs created on my stills from MMC on my TT through photobase or acid image(j peg handlers)

MMC is relatively cheaper than SD.
I doubted if 3650 handled SD even with adaptor!

The card is a little thinner than the T/T card, but it does still work with a card reader, if you want to move that. I wanted to put a slightly larger card in than the 16 mb for some movies and mp3s, and I would have preferred to use the 65mb card that came with my T/T when I bought it (I use a 256 now).
However, the phone will not recognize the memory cards from the T/T if you try to format it.

I upgraded to a 64MB MMC, from my Palm. I have switched three different cards between the 3650 and the TT with no problem whatsoever. In fact - the only direction and protocol that does not work is IR or BT from the 3650 to the TT of the pics, because my Palm says it doesn't know what to do with the JPEG images?? ANy ideas how to fix this?? I have AcidImage on my Palm. Also, got a very helpful tech from Nokia today who updated the following issues:

1) The Jabra BT200 uses the "headset" profile, the 3650 relies on the "handsfree" profile. His belief was that Jabra needs to update it, although he understood my point of view, but there will be no update to add the headset profile to the 3650.
2) Palm drivers for the 3650. This one makes since to me, and I was able to verify it. The drivers are Palm's job to write. This is due to two facts, a) Palm has written all the otehr drivers themselves, not SOny nor Nokia have written any of the existing ones; b) Nokia only offically supports the Windows OS, no Apple, Linux, Palm, PPC, etc... Just Windows, they have never released a driver for the other platforms. I was unable to disprove this, so it makes since.
3) MMC Sizes. The 3650 will officially support a 128MB MMC card, and "should" support a 256MB, although no 256MB has been tested. Nokia will be releasing a 128MB card in the near future.

In other Nokia News -> N-Gage should be early summer release and will hit US shore, and the 7250 (7650??, I forgot the exact number) will begin shipping to the US mid-May.

I kept his phone number and name (he gave me a direct line), so I can call him next week if we come up with any otehr questions, I also gave him our URL with an invitation to join us and assist. He was extremely knowledgeble, outgoing and friendly. SPent over an hour with him today.

I use formatted cards on TT as well as my digital camera
(SD as well as MMC)
Reciprocal recognition for both formats i.e DCIM -jpegs on both without any problems except SAN disk
eg, I took photos on my digital viewable on TT and vice versa

I forgot I had an extra 32mb mmc card for my old camcorder since I didn't need it as much after I bought my digital camera last year.
I dropped that in the phone and it worked fine. I used a card reader and copied over the files from the 16 that came with it and it loaded effortlessly, so I'm happy for now.
The footprint is very small on most apps. I've also read that the bigger the card, the slower the phone will be since it is written to search the entire card, though I'm not sure what kind of a drag that would be.
Now, just to see if there's an easy way to convert and send movies. I'd love to be able to shoot a quick movie (use hipcam to get more than 13 seconds), then transfer it to the T/T for storage and playback (maybe if a real video player *cough, cough* ever comes for the T/T.
Or maybe bluetooth to the mac, then kinoma the file and send it to the T/T.

Rand -- when you say you've gotten the TT and the 3650 to work nicely together, are you also able to connect through the 3650 to the Internet using the Bluetooth connection? I've been able to use Bluetooth to transfer data between the two, but I've yet to be able to e-mail or surf the web using my 3650's connection. Any luck there? BTW, do you mind my asking who your phone service provider is?

TIA,
Lisa

I haven't yet tried the Internet sharing. May do some playing around with it this weekend, but for the past week just getting my feet wet with it.
As far as carriers, I'm working outside of the US at this time. I'm in Singapore right now, using M1.

I'll probably try and get bluetooth internet connections from my Mac to my T/T as well as the 3650-T/T connection over the weekend. Will post results, unless some else hits the jackpot first.

ANy way to get rid of the ones I don't use - I tried this with a T68i, and now can't remove the dang things from the TT, also all the PalmModem stuff and all, I will never try to connect it to the PalmModem, so I don't need those drivers, either.

Still no ideas on the unused profiles and such in connections and how to rid of them I assume, darn. In other news:

Spoke to Jabra yesterday (they are a local company to me here in San Diego, CA). They will be offereing RMA's to those of us with BT200's that do not have the "handsfree" profile. I am on a notify when available list and will post here as soon as I get word. Jabra estimated within a few weeks.

Cingular has gone back on forth on Palm using Tungsten as a modem. So, I finally got the settings I needed, AND IT STILL WON'T CONNECT. This time I think its the phone. I was given a dial-up # of "*99#" When i use this, the tungsten connects to the phone, and attempts to dial, but does nothing. When I take the # out of the number, the TT can trigger the 3650 to dial, but of course, its not the right number so no data. Cingular says I need their $20 software, which is fine, but I don't see how the software can fix this if the TT is communicating with the 3650 just fine. Am I nuts in this logic or is there something the disk and software could to differently?? It seems to me the 3650 just doesn't like the # sign being in the number. Any one else know more???

what did Jabra tell you was it the regular BT200 or the ones for non bluetooth phones??

DJFriar
05-05-2003, 04:16 PM
Jabra had said I should return it to the store I bought it for non-compatibility reasons. I had mentioned that is was a few months old, and was told in that case I could be put on a notify list when it is availble, and call in a RMA and they would be glad to exchange it. She warned me that it could take as long as 8-10 days to get a replacement though. I actually own the BT200 for non-BT phones, although the headset itself is the exact same, so it should not matter (this was confirmed with Jabra). Therefore, I'm just waiting for my notigy e-mail, I will call them tomorrow and see if I can get an update, as Jabra is actually less than 2 miles from my home/work.

I emailed them and'I was supposedly put on a list but I used one of my anon addresses so they wouldnt know who I was when I called in to get an RMA... Let me know if you find anything out,

you can email me or PM me with any info.

btw, the Nokia bluetooth headset is great, the HD-W2. Good sound, voice dialing enabled, decent battery consumption, little interference. About the only thing, is the earpiece is stiff and begins to rub a little if you have it on for too long with adjusting a little.

My TT and 3650 are paired and talking to eachother. I can dial the 3650 off the TT with no problems. Questions:

* How do I SMS off the TT?

* What is the best way to use the TT for email?

* How do I use a program like worldmate that syncs weather forcasts and currency rates?

My service provider is ATT. I find their "mMode" to be very frusterating to work with. It seems like they offer nothing but advertising, and they want to charge me for it! Maybe I just don'tget it. Anyone out there happy with the ATT and getting their TT to do everything they want?

Heh heh, I noticed under Multimedia Settings in my 3650, there is a "show ad's" option. Interesting. Anyway, SMS (at least on my TT/3650 pair) will only send. I cannot get the Palm to check SMS regardless of program used. Sending is beautiful though, its nice to have a log, I've heard that FunSMS (my fav 3rd party app for SMS) can archive and copy to memo pad, but it isn't compatible with my setup yet.

I use the built-in e-mail program at the moment, but I've been playing with SnapperMail and it is very promising, I liek it a lot more and the attachment support is a slick trick.

I have no idea about these questions as I don't use them.

Making progress, but slowly.

When I go to the "Preferences" application on the TT, in the communications tab, "network" is one of the options. When I tap on that tab, the first field is "Service:" and it gives me several options, such as AT&T Worldnet, Compuserve, Earthlink, etc.

The one I need isn't there. It is "AT&T GPRS ". Where do I get it? Can't find it on the T disk, in the updates on palm.com, or at ATT. The most recent model they support on thier site is the palm V!!

DJFriar
05-11-2003, 07:37 PM
You can use PhoneLink, although the only carriers supported tehre are Cingular and T-Mobile. You can call AT&T though and get them to give you the info (this is a long list, and will include login and password, gateways, etc...) you can then program the Palm manually for this. I do not have AT&T, so I'm not sure the exact steps or settings, but Cingular did give me the actual settings.

The latest version of phonelink supports AT&T GPRS. Use the phonelink app in your TT CD. It will automatically update the list for you.

Good Day.
