Newbie here, and to PDAs in general. I own an IPAQ 3800 series. Have had it for a few months using it only as a standalone PDA. Have never connected it to anything. Today while I was editing a pocket word .doc, the PDA crashed. It will turn on but say that it can't find anything I tap on with the stylus. The only things it recognizes now is the Contacts icon. Everything else results in an error "Cannot find <name of icon>" or it does nothing when I tap on an icon. Any ideas ? Its fully charged by the way.

some of the errors for example

when i click on Word, nothing happens
when i click on power settings, error is "cannot find ctlpnl)
when i click on any app icon icon, it says "cannot find pxl, etc"

Also says, "make sure the path and filename is correct and all required libraries are available"

i had sent an email to compaq support as well and they advised me to do a soft reset. That did the trick for now. But any ideas on why it would suddenly just crap out like that ? I hope this doesn't keep happening now that its happened once.

the specific thing i was doing when it crashed on me was this-

I was trying to rename a Word file on the pocketpc. Thats when it started acting up.

thanks!

It will happen from time to time -- depends on the applications that you use and whether they do a good job of freeing up memory, etc. Don't worry about it and do a soft reset from time to time -- it's just a "reboot" and will improve performance of your PPC (as long as you don't get stuck "having" to do one more than a couple of times a week it's no big deal)...

Thanks! I guess that was a pretty benign problem then if its just like a reboot on a hung windows machine. Now that I know that I feel better.
