I'm loking for a remote accessing piece of software (free or commercial) for my Ipaq H5450. While I'm away from my base I want to be able to access the network at my base. I have a broadband connection with a static IP at my base.

While I'm away I would connect to the internet via my mobile and GPRS service or dial-up if GPRS was not available.

Any suggestion would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

That depends on what exactly you want to do and how secure your want the connection to be. If you only need to transfer files you can set up ftp server on the desktop that connect to the internet, there are several ftp client for the ipaq, you can search on the software section on this site for them.
If you want a more secure and flexible connection, you will need to set up a vpn connection on that desktop to act as a vpn server, the ipaq has a basic vpn client builtin. Here's links with vpn information;

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gomobile/vpns.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/technologies/communications/vpn/default.asp

Then again base on what you want to do, you may need additional programs on the ipaq. The builtin File Explorer does have ablitly to see network share drives. I hope this helps you get started.

Or if you're running XP Pro on the base machine you could use terminal services.

you'd have to open up the relevant port on any firewall you have running (not sure which terminal services runs on) which obviously raises security considerations.
