Hi,
I just bought the Sony Clie SJ30 today. I was surprised to read in the intstruction book that the clie does not support "Expense." I also read somewhere on the internet that people have had problems with their clies crashing when some applications/programs are beamed to them. So now I'm wondering about the clie having limitations I didn't expect. I was really looking forward to downloading a few cool productivity tools I saw at the palm.com shareware site, but will they even be able to run?
What experience have others out there had with this? Are most programs compatible? Or do you generally have to be really careful? Are there sites out there for downloading Clie-safe programs?
All info will be greatly appreciated.

I have been using a Clie for a year now and have never had a problem with any quality software release. The only possible "problem" that someone may have referenced is that some programs do not look good in high res. In those cases, removing them from the high res support in preferences cures the problem.

Enjoy your new Clie!!

What I do before I buy a program is go to Handango.com or Palmgear.com and read what others have said. Then I read forums, like this one and see what others suggest. And finally, I download the trial, play with it during the evaluation and either delete it, or buy it. I've got an SJ30 also (just bought it a week ago) and it seems pretty stable. I've owned 5 palm os pda's and 1 pocket pc. Palm OS is much more stable IMHO. I've tried a little shy of 40 apps for it (128Mb memory stick is a must) and they all ran great with the exception of YiShow 4.6, which crashed it. After a hard reset, it seemed to have fixed itself. But I deleted it, which is unfortunate because I loved the way it looked. Anyway, my point is that it's a Palm OS device and it's made by Sony so it should be stable. However, the SJ30 hasn't been out long enough to know what works flawlessly. Look for programs supporting HiRes, which isn't necessary, but the screen is just too pretty to waste. Just try before you buy and know how to hard reset.

P.S. I'm sure YiShow runs great for most, and maybe I just did something wrong. I just don't like hard resets and I've read posts from others having the problems with 4.6. I'll try 4.6.1 (which is in Beta now) when it comes out.

I just wanna say, if you want a good site to get all sorts of apps and games and stuff, try tucows.com and palmgear.com, no offense to palm, but they have a DISGUSTING selection, and it's all shareware, ick!

Better yet, look at freewarepalm.com. Not a price tag on any of them!!

Most of the disaster stories you may have read were probably related to apps that needed a conduit and none was provided; as is the case with the Pam OS Expense app.
Stick with apps from copies with a track record and you will not have a problem. Apps such as Cesium, HandBase, DateBk, QuickOffice, and the products from LandWare. The list of great Palm OS apps is long.
Live Long and enjoy your Clie.
