Recently switched from a Casio E-125 to an Audiovox Maestro. Am familiar with Windows CE and the use of ActiveSych as I have used the Casio for 2 years and also have a NEC 770 and IBM z50.

The problem I have with the Audiovox is when I put it in the cradle to synch, it brings up the dialer and will not synch until a dial-up connection is made. This does NOT happen when I synch the IBM or NEC nor did it happen with the Casio. I am not using Avantgo (option is not checked) and the same items that go to the other PDA's go to the Audiovox.

I am running ActiveSynch 3.6 and Windows 98SE on the machine that connects to the PDA's.

Not sure if this is related but when I remove the PDA from the cradle and go to running programs, Activesynch shows up. When I try to stop it, I get an error message saying the program is not responding and data will be lost.

Any idea as to why this happens?

Thanks in advance.

Check in activesync connection settings and see if you allow network or ras server conection. And check in your desktop internet explorer and see if you set the connection setting to dial automatically when network connection is not presented.

Checked the settings for all 3 devices that use Active Synch 3.6 and they are identifcal; i.e., Network Connections are disabled.

In IE, the "Always dial my default connection" option is selected; however, only the Audiovox calls the dialer and connects to the internet when placed in the cradle. The IBM and NEC do not bring up the dialer and simply synch as expected.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance
