Hi All,

I'm a user of Palm M-500 for the past 2yrs.

Recently I've started experiencing a strange problem. I couldn't get a solution even from the Help Guide which came with the product.

After I take my Palm out of the HotSync Cradle, my Palm is Hard Resetted. Why is this so ?

Each time after re-charging, my Palm is getting hard-reset and all the data is lost which has made the palm a useless one when I travel. Anyway I don't think it is due to ESD as my cradle is marked "E", which I got from Palm. I also use a USB travel charger as well as HotSync cradle when I travel.

What could be the problem ? Pls help me. Is it because the battery is not recharging. Anyway it shows that that it is recharging.

Sangam,
On your PC go to the Palm Folder then to the folder with your HotSync Name and then to the "Backup" folder. Change the name of the folder to something such as "ABackup" , do not create a new "backup folder", then hotsync. Assuming your Palm has been hard reset you will be ask what HotSync name to sync to, pick your name and the sync will only connect the basic Address, Calendar TODo Memo etc. After this hotsync if your problem was in the third party soiftware you were loading onto the palm during the sync the problem should now be gone.
If you are now functional start adding back in the other software only one or two at a time by going to the "ABackup" folder and double clicking the app you want added to your palm at the next sync.

Hi,

Even after trying with this option...there is no solution. Still my M-500 gets a hard reset after taking out from the Hotsync Cradle.

It is absolutely dead and useless once I take out from the cradle... the main purpose of going for a Palm is gone...

Somebody help me !!!

TallGuy,
YOur telling me that following my instructions your Palm still Hard Rests after a SYnc; Correct?
If so you have a hard ware issue and the only solution is repair or replacement.
Do you have the same problem with the cradle even if no soft ware is transfered?
If you have PalmInstall or SyncWizard you could try Just having the HotSyncManager contact the Palm, move no software and then disconnect. If this results in a hard reset you have a hardware issue or corrupted USB.

After you pull the m500 off the cradle it Hard Resets ... Can you see the battery indicator - does it show 100% charged? If not, do an In-cradle Reset. There was a post last month where this solved a similar problem.

If battery is ok, then I would guess that it is some hardware problem (like DrMud said). Try Syncing to another computer. Does this happen with the HotSync cable too? Also, try with the AC adapter disconnected.

Hey Doc what do you think of this Dilbert? I think Sony has worked harder than Palm on it:
