Greetings

If anyone has a solution to this, I would be most grateful.

I have an iPAQ H3970 with ROM BIOS version 2.10 and a Nokia 6310i with firmware version V5.10

I have installed the latest service pack from the HP/Compaq web site. on the 3970.

Objective: setup internet connection via dialup to Freeserve.

Problem: I have managed to pair OK and get the two devices communicating. However, when I come to 'connect' to the internet on the iPAQ, the number to dial appears on the Nokia screen OK but dies within a second or two (no carrier or number unobtainable).

If I dial the number manually on the Nokia, all is well and I hear the Freeserve modem answering.

I am using START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNECTIONS->Modify

Using the Freeserve dialup number 08450796699, no special extra dial-string modem commands, as this is not a GPRS call.

Bluetooth is enabled (radio on) and pairing is established OK.

I have been through the Nokia and Compaq PDF 'how to' references (many times) with no progress.

Other people have had the same problem, see here:

I am using O2 as my phone provider.

Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance

Maurice

The plot thickens.

1. I attempted to connect via iRda (Infra Red) and had precisely the same problem.

2. I then borrowed my wife's Nokia 6210 (as opposed to the 6310i). The 6210 is not bluetooth enabled, so I used the Infra Red port and guess what:

IT WORKED FIRST TIME!

So, the problem lies with either the 6310i or my service provider (O2). My wife is with BT Cellnet.

Keepya posted.

Cracked it

I have spent all day working on this. I need a firmware upgrade. If I go to V5.50, I should be laughing.

Check this out ...

To check your phone's firmware, dial the following on the 6310i:

*#0000#

Enjoy

P.S. I managed to get GPRS working. I had to download some software from my service provider to get it to work.
