Hi,

I'd like to know if there is any other web browser than Opera I can use on my Netbook?

My Opera 5.14 crashes all the time!!! And I'm sick of that now and need something new. The Old Opera 3.62 is too slow and I can't get it faster...

Please send me any info, link or the program to my email address:

Hi Inspiron,

It surprises me that your Opera keeps crashing as it is normally quite stable, which is why it was supplied as the main browser for the netBook's OS upgrade. I assume you are running version 158? What sort of problems are you getting. Opera 5.14 still has one or two bugs but nothing really major. What free disk space do you have on your C: drive aswell? Do you run Opera with lots of other applications running in the background?

I'd like to know if there is any other web browser than Opera I can use on my Netbook?

I am not aware of any other web browser available for the netBook, apart from Psion's attempt WEB which was supplied with early ER5 OS's. This was not a patch on Opera though.

You can of course use the GrandRapid Java web browser, although since Opera is so good I haven't heavily tested it yet.

I doubt it would be faster than Opera3 though.

My advice in order to avoid Opera crashes is not to open more than one window. Also Java applets tend not to survive for very long - it seems as though Opera's memory handling is a bit poor :(

I agree with Yan on this one although it does depend on the site and the coding. Some multi-window sites work great on my 7book but others can be a pain. Forums tend to be ok although even they have the odd button which will cause Opera to crash. So I think it really depends on where you regularly go. Obviously my brand of swedish porn sites have been coded with real professionalism and dedication !! lol

Hi, I used to have crash problems, but since I upped the cache memory it rarely crashes - though I do mainly surf psion sites, sado that I am. I often have multiple windows open and rarely have trouble, I do have a 64MB netbook though which may help, as before the memory upgrade I used to have loads of crashes

To what size? I have over 20MB free on C on my 64MB netBook and a 4MB Disk cache in Opera's prefs, and yet I find that if I use the Ctrl-T workaround so as to re-wrap text in large text boxes with more than one window open I wil often get a Kern-Exec 3 error :(

LOL! I must admit my main ports of call are this site, my webmail, and radiotimes.com; I usually use my netBook's web browsing capabilities when I'm sat lazing on the sofa :D

<<<To what size?>>> 2MB

<<<I have over 20MB free on C>>>> with no Apps open I have about 31MB free.

<<<and yet I find that if I use the Ctrl-T workaround so as to re-wrap text in large text boxes with more than one window open I wil often get a Kern-Exec 3 error >>> Oh I know this one I used to get it all the time on certain sites or maybe it was at certain times I'm not sure, if I used the CTrl-M feature for zooming (I tried for ages to nail down what did it but besides vaguely sensing that it did it only between certain zooms going in one direction only I never found a convincing answer). No idea why but it hasn't happent for ages. What I do to get the text to re-wrap is to click on the zoom button and zoom down and step and then zoom back up again.

I never zoom in Opera5 because it is certain to crash it, or at least usually causes it's display to be corrupt :(

So I leave it left at "100 percent". Maybe this is why Opera5.14 is stable for me?
