Is it just me or does the psion and a laptop (Compaq Evo and Toshiba) not sync through IR.
I have tried and they just dont talk to each other. Message on Pc says psion actively refuses it even though PC sees that it is within range

Unfortunately, Microsoft withdrew support for IrCOMM in Windows 2000 (and now in XP) and replaced it with IrOBEX.

PsiWin only works with a serial connection and as IrCOMM emulates a serial connection over Infrared, this protocol must be used. There is a patch at www.ircomm2k.de to implement IrCOMM in Windows 2000, but not all users have been successful in using this.

So, are there people around who do have Psiwin working on Windows 2000, on a laptop, without serial port, but through a com port through infrared. ?

I've been trying this, with the use of IRcomm2k. And after trying it I read the documentation on their website, which litteraly says that Psiwin can't do it in this case.

So anyone has succeeded doing this ?

thanks

Victor

Yes. :D

I've just got it working this morning on my work Win2K laptop. The trick is to use the latest beta of IrCOMM (v2.0.0-alpha7) as v2 works and v1.2.1 won't.

I'll be trying it on my home PC (WinXP) in the next few days and - assuming this works okay - will be (at long last) updating the articles on my website on this detailing how to get it all working. :)

Cheers,
Martin

I tried it as well. With the new 2.0 alpha version of ircomm2k and indeed Psiwin works. It's not flawless , I can't get it to reconnect everytime. But I was able to do a backup already. So there's a lot more hope here. The installation of the drivers is still by hand, I guess cause it's an alpha version. Maybe better wait until it has been released ?

plBeam (http://psiloc.com/psion/eng/plbeam/index.html) plBeam certainly allows the transfer of files between the Psion and devices using IrOBEX protocol, but it won't help with PsiWin which must use a serial connection, or an emulation thereof with IrCOMM and a "Virtual IR COM Port".
