I just got an m130 yesterday and I still haven't quite figured out if I can use the internet on it or not. I can't seem to find any good information. I don't have any type of internet on my cell phone but I do have high speed internet through a tcp/ip connection. I don't know exactly what they mean when they ask for my ISP or connection type or any of that. Is there some kind of way to surf the net when I'm away from my computer or is this a totally stupid question? Thanks for any help!

The 130 does not have stand-alone internet access capabilities. Some others do, but not the 130. It is possible to gain access to the web through a palm modem (somewhat expensive) or through a cell phone (either through a cable or infared connection). Before you look into that you need to find out if your area has wireless internet services, mine does not. If internet access is important to you you might want to consider returning your 130 to the retailer and upgrading. Not only would it be more convenient, but it might also end up being cheaper in the long run.

Well, it's not that big a deal that I have the internet on there, I was just wondering how complicated and expensive it would be. But I would like to know if it is possible to compose emails and then have them sent the next time I hotsync. I use yahoo, and I tried setting it up but I obviously did something wrong because it didn't work. Is this even possible? Thanks!

It needs to use an actual email program as far as I know (ex: Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus Mail, etc). Web-based email such as hotmail, yahoo, etc won't work.

Ugh, that sucks. Thanks for responding.

No problem. What you can do though is if you are running yahoo mail, you might be able to use Outlook Express as an intermediary. With Outlook Express you can access web-based email just like it was a regular ISP email account. You might try doing that as well. Yahoo! and Hotmail are two that I know works. Give it a shot, you never know :)

As Sparticus pointed out you can use Outlook Express on your PC as the mail intermediary for your downloaded email. Then as you desired the mail you replied to or compose on the Palm will be sent during the hotsync. The MAIL application is on your Palm.
If you have not set up the MAIL conduit on the PC you will need to go to your Palm Desktop Program Group and run Setup Mail.

As I just said in another post, Portsmith makes ethernet adapters for palm pilots. (portsmith.com) They're worth checking out.
Since they can't use mochasoft ppp, I'm guessing this is your only option other than cellular. If you don't have a hub around the house, you can get a network card for your PC and a crossover cable. Simply enable internet connection sharing on your PC.
On the other hand, if you have a wireless hub around your house, intel makes a wireless eithernet card for palm.

K.. You prob. already know this.. will mention it anyway. Although your access is somewhat limited, you are able to use several web-clipping applications with the M series, including AvantGo.com. It's a good program, and I have found it very usefull.. Almost as good as wirless, except this is free. YINKs ! Free is a good thing

I've found avantgo to be a pain actually. The sites that I REALLY want to read are all "too big to be downloaded to the palm". (Plucker has quite easily disproved this.)
If you just want to grab web pages for viewing on the palm, go for Plucker. It's a bit hard to figure out, but it works MUCH better.

can you use a SDIO bluetooth card connect to a PC to get Internet access?

Yes, but you need to find a place of access. You can turn your computer into a proxy server by getting one of the USB bluetooth devices for your puter.
Some people are hoping that bluetooth points will be everywhere someday, making wireless access a bit cheaper to get. I'm not so sure, but here's hoping.

Anyone interested in having their Yahoo or Hotmail work with Outlook and the HotSync conduit should look at this program. It is very simple and stable.
