Check with the maufacturer or the computer or the
motherboard for a BIOS ujpgrade. Upgrade the BIOS per the
instructions and double check the settings in the BIOS to
activate the USB correctly.
Then make sure the Windows USB driver is installed by looking
in the Control panel.

Greetings;
I need to know a few things before I look into this. What operating system are you using on your desktop? Has it ever sync'd? How are you "reseting my ipaq"? Have you performed a hard reset?

Windows 95 doesn't support USB. So if you are using anything less than 98. You'll have to use the serial connector.

I had this problem in the first week I had my new 3955. I was told to go into Windows Control Panel and remove the usb ports. Then, you will need to uninstall ActiveSync, reboot, and go through the ActiveSync installation process from scratch, i.e., without the sync cradle connected when you start. Since doing this, I have had no sync problems with ActiveSync.

expanding on the previous post
When you are in the device maneger, there should be a catigory called "windows ce usb devices". If you expand that there should be only be one string. If there are any duplicates remove them all and reinstall activesync.
hope that helps

I assume you've solved your problem by now but if not...slowing the baud rate and disabling my old Palm software worked for me. I was tearing my hair out for 2 weeks with the same problem.

I looked at the way my Windows XP was setup and it was formated the same as Windows NT, so i hade to get a sirial connection and not USB....it's all good
