Hi, I was curious about an impression I have, that I don't know where I formed or even if it's correct.

The root of my question, is will the IQue (which I have already pre-ordered!) be able to run software made for the Sony Clie Line of handhelds?

Somewhere, I read or thought I read, that Sony didn't follow strict OS5 standards and decided to handle somethings (music and sound playback) differently.

Since Sony has the lead on OS5 products, I keep seeing software, mostly games, being described as haveing Clie Versions. Are they truly only Sony Clie versions or simply apps that require OS5 and a large enough display (booth of which the IQue has).

Any input would be great.

Dave

There are certain programs that won't run but it should be contained to those that are Memory Stick exclusive such as MSGate and MSimport etc.

Sony also states that their Remote Control program won't work on Palm devices because of the differences in the IR port output. I've got them to work on my OS 4 devices but haven't tried on my Tungsten T.

Most of your better software developers create programs for the large resolution displays and just happen to tag them as Clie versions because Sony is about the only company using the "soft" graffiti until the iQue comes out.

When using a Samsung I-300 with the soft graffiti - most hacks that addressed the keyboard wouldn't work. Since OS 5 officially doesn't support hacks - I believe that most of the major programs will work on the iQue.

That being said - there will probably have to be some fixes put out after the device makes it to market because of the interface issue with GPS but I suspect it will be minimal.

With regards to the music and playback issues - this is as much related to the Memory Stick as anything and that's where Sony tweaked the OS. Since the iQue is using the SD slot - shouldn't have any issues in using Real Player or another MP3 playback that's not exclusive to the memory stick. It works fine on my Tungsten.
