Well... I've been cramped for space with the m505 and have been waiting for this to be released. The day it was released I ordered it from palm... free ground shipping....... thought it was worth the wait. They sent it FedEx for free! Got it today and I just can't believe how beautiful the display is, how quick it is... what a wonderful pda. And all that memory! Oh man... a piece of heaven.
On the downside, some of the older apps seem to crash it. No commercial applications seem to be having trouble though. These are minor complaints with an overall breathtakingly wonderful experience.
Just had to share what a great experience I'm having.. and what a wonderful pda this is. The 505's going into immediate retirement.

The local CompUSA had 5 and I bought the first one that day.
So far I like the device a lot. I've never had a Palm with a keyboard so I find myself uncomfortably switching between the stylus and the keyboard. It will take some time finding what works best in particular situations.
The wi-fi support is excellent but I've only tried it on my home network. It's great to have a PDA with built-in networking.
Anyone else out there have one yet?

Have you tried the headphone yet? Some messages on other threads say the TC does not support stereo headphones because of its unique size. Does your Tungsten C have stereo sound through the headphone? Thanks.

The headphone jack is small. I don't have any headphones that would work so I have no idea if it can produce stereo sound. Sorry.

I had a little headset from a cordless phone... it fit in the jack and the Palm seemed to like it, but I couldn't hear too much. I hope I don't have to get the Palm brand to get it to work.

I had purchased mine last wednesday from Circuit City and that the first one they had. I love the display and it is extremely bright and the speed of the processor and love the 64 megs of ram built in it. NOW...It does not have stereo output like the TT which means NO mp3, I have rather big hands and the keyboard is troublesome for me at times, palm lied to me that the finish was metal like the TT but it's hard plastic, and the biggest dissapointment for me was the short range WiFi signal...I have my access point in the kitchen and in my living room I get a green signal and in my bedroom I get a yellow signal and in my garage or driveway I get NO signal...I am a bit dissapointed and will return my C and wait for the sandisk Wifi 802.11b due out in June.
The WiFi abillity was myreason for purchasing the C cause I travel....but for $499.00..I don't think so.
Cheers

thats the problem with ALL newer palm models, they made it good enough, but not as good as it can be.
T-W - no built-in mic, below average phone component plus slowwwwwwwww processor.
zire71- great but why no bluetooth at 299 bucks.
T-C would be almost perfect but no stereo, no mp3. think what T-c would be if can also play music.

I have the TT model and this baby is perfect for me :
processor is good and I can hear my mp3 with stereo sound.
And I like the small format. I can put it in a small pocket. Very nice!
So, I don't understand why Palm remove stereo sound?!?
It seems they don't want to make the best model on the market that they could can. Bizarre...
Hope you will like your TC.
Happy palming!

How did you surf the net or retreive.send info via e mail wirelessly in no WIFI environment ???
for instance
Travelling on the bus/train/motorcar/freeway/desert/open seas/moutaineering,on the beach........
You have bluetooth enabled phone in your pocket..
I am afraid you can do ALL the above with tungsten TT and bluetooth phone wirelessly!
I will never replace my TT for TC for this very reason no matter how fast the processor
AND.... Mp3/oggvorbis playability in STEREO on TT for my TWO ears.

My comments exactly. Only thing I like about the TC, is that the keyboard is always tehre, but eventually, an add-on will work for my TT

I sit here at the office after just having sold my TT on eBay. I am very happy because I can now go and get the TC! I played with on at my local CompUSA. They had a WiFi setup in store and it was just great! That and the ram are a welcome addition.
Here's my reasons for switching. I used the TT for about 3 months now and I found that I hated the slide-to-use feature of the unit. Yes, the form factor is nice, but I USE the device. I keep it with me at all times and constantly refer to memos and the like. TO keep opening it was a real pain. I know that it's trivial, but to me, it's dignificant. I didn't like the thumbboard at first and the plastic case, but I found that Graffiti2 was very pleasant. The case itself was also very sound, like the case on the new 71. I didn't care for the case on the 705 so thankfully, the redid the TC.
We have WiFi here at the office, I have it at home, and most of the places that I frequent also are WiFi enabled. Imagine shopping at a Best Buy, needing to see what a local compeditor has the "thing" that you want to by selling for, and just looking it up.
Stay tuned.....

EXACTLY.... I have a Palm Vx that I LOVED.... and went to the Tungsten T. The T seemed heavy and bulky.. even closed. I just couldn't get used to having to slide that thing open and closed.
NOTE TO PALM: Whey can't you make a thin palm like the V???? How about a ZIRE without the camera?

Just got my T|C yesterday. Very nice. The thumbboard is fine, and I don't mind switching between KB and stylus. The on-screen graffiti is exceptional.
I managed to get one of those new slim external KBs from CompUSA for $80. It was an "open box" item, but it works and has the full warranty. This KB is slick, and is helpful when I have a lot of typing to do.
My WiFi range is pretty good--I can get through in my bedroom family room, and deck in the back yard. I really like that feature.
I switched from an NR70 to get this machine. Definitely a good choice, especially from a speed perspective.
The only thing I can say is that battery life is dramatically reduced. Not sure if it's the display or the processor, or even the WiFi. Still, it beats PocketPC hands down.

Actually they did... its that tiny white one with 2mb of ram :) But I know what you mean. It would be nice. Switch out the camera for bluetooth and voila! A killer unit! I'll be switching from my m500 to the Tungsten T in a few weeks. I was going to go for the TC, but would then have to spend 799 (CDN) as well as 280 (CDN) for a wireless network to go online with (I want to do email and what not with the TT). I figured with a bluetooth USB adapter, I can get the same thing with the TT as I could with the TC... hence my decision not to get the more pricey unit. I am glad however, that you folks are enjoying your TC's! :)

I think that you're going to be a little disappointed by the BT and TT email scenario. You need to set up a PPP prigram on your desktop/laptop to emulate a server for the BT to access the internet. Then go through a rather lengthy connection configuration scenario on the TT just to stay within 10 feet of the BT adapter. I did it and wasn't too impressed. Now, I just compose, send and gone! Now let me explain. My world is composed of 802.11 everywhere. At home, parents house, work, starbucks, compUSA, bestbuy, friends homes, etc. Kind of a geeks world, but hey....
my 2 bits worth..... hehehe

Yes, I'll have to set up my desktop computer as a LAN Access Point using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). I'll also have to ensure that theres no fixed IP address enabled on my system, otherwise it either won't work or it'll go haywire :) The USB adapter that I'm getting will be able to go 30 feet in-house. I actually only want the bluetooth USB adapter so I can surf the 'net while I'm in bed relaxing on my day off. Mainly for my email and what not, but for other purposes as well. I considered 802.11b, but there isn't a Wi-Fi card right now that'll work with Palm that I can find. I know SanDisk is making one available in June, but it won't support PalmOS right off the bat, and I really don't want to wait that long... I'm so impatient lol :) I would have to get a whole new network (wireless of course) in order to really take advantage of the distance ratio between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but BT will do what I need :) Thanks for the advice though doc!

I'll keep my TT
The answer is yes and no for wifi
Yes
for the convenience of wifi in an wifi rich environment such as cosmopolitan areas, office, public places hospitals, malls.PRISON (HOME) ...so on
No
for the comparison of VAST coverage of ISP mobile(land+ wireless) through BT on the go all over the world.
If you compare
the ISP using GSM/GPRS + blue tooth through your mobile wirelessly .It covers most of the world and receive mobile info (web internet email) on the move anywhere on this planet!(ISP coverage GSM,GPRS BLUETOOTH mobile 99.9%)
If you rely on Wifi, its coverage is confined , limited and grounded.(coverage 0.1%)
See the potential marketing population and sample sizes for PDA????
Imagine carrying TC on the move and you have BT enabled mobile in your pocket " Incommunicado scenario "on the move for retreiving info on your PDA( except , the limited 30 degree cone angle LOS (line of sight) and limited short range, speed of transmission and noticeable battery drain for any STATIONARY irda sources for a reliable infrared communication)
This is one of the reasons not to upgrade my TT to TC
The purpose of having pDA (i believe) is portability, functionailty, pocketability, practicali ty and form factor) on the move i.e away from home,office......
I would rather use my lap top LARGER screen size at home for wifi as well as BT than smaller screen size of ANY PDA.
Similarly at the Office i would use my laptop/desktop screen
If the ???new palm (ideal)with the following(TC got only 3)
1.bluetooth
2.wifi
3.stereo output
4.sd/cf combo
5.64ram
6,transflective screen
7.backlit keyboard
8.voice recorder
9.builtin GPS
10.similar form factor and solid build(tungsten/titanium.magnesium alloy)
11.replaceable 2400MAH lithion-ion battery
(Garmin(new) pretty close to the above ideal characteristics)
Then,I will buy the new palm on the release date and let TT go away!!!!
Why there were MORE questions than ANSWERs on this little INCOMPLETE/handicapped TC, the moment it was release???
See the threads on PDA street.brighthand, palm info more ?????
example ?om BTcapability.?VOIP/?on headphone ?mono vs stereo??web browser crahes.?on attachment ???........so on just to mention afew
For the time being I''ll keep my TT-t68i-BT -triocombo
I use my TT in OR and intensive care

I do miss the heavy case and the TT BT for certain things. I also admit that I do not listen to MP3's on the Palm. What I did notice is the wonderful 64mb of ram and the no-hastle wifi setup. No matter where I am, if there's a wifi to be sniffed out, then the TC finds it and attemps to log on with a variety of defaults. It tells you the SID and the encryption being on / off.
BT is "ok" for surfing, but a little slow. The TC with it's easy to connect wifi and email can't be matched "yet".
I do miss the TT, but I am quite pleased on the switch to the TC.

Very good bits to be sure :) All I really need the bluetooth for is printing from elsewhere in the house while I'm doing book inventory (I have sooooo many books) and DVD inventory (again, got tons of 'em). The surfing the web thing is cool, and it doesn't have to be fast. Fast enough to get my email and check a few sites is just dandy. Woot!

The screen is just awesome.
The CPU is blindingly fast.
The battery lasts over a 4 day weekend on the same charge. ha! try that with a PocketPC.
Wi-Fi vs BT: That one is really easy for me. I don't own a BT phone. In fact, I don't own a mobile phone. Also, I spend most of my day near or within a wi-fi hotspot... work, home, university, coffee shop.
BT makes sense if you do medium to heavy traveling.

Wi-fi on the TC works great...unfortunately, LEAP is not yet available....it looks like Palm is working on it though...hope they get it soon, because without I am unable to use the wonderful wi-fi at work

I keep thinking about the TC, although I too cannot give up my BT (I have a 3650). I would like to see Palm come out with a BT card with 256MB on it, then I could just get that for the TC, and I will be a happy camper.
Sparticus Caine: What program are you using for your DVD collection? I'm at 230 DVD's and 716 CD's.

Why can't one use WiFi to connect to the printer via another system? I know there is a VNC client available for the T|C.

Also, the Belkin BT access point has two USB printer ports on it for printer sharing.
