I'd very much like to find/build a Pocket PC device with the following features:
1. Colour LCD display
2. Wireless (802.11b) connectivity
3. Camera
4. Microphone
5. Speaker
I've come very close to finding a Pocket PC device that does all of these, but no cigar as yet!
The closest I've come is the Dell Axim X5, which has all of these things, except 802.11b and a camera. You can buy a Compact Flash 802.11b card and a company called Pretec makes a Compact Flash camera, but since this device only has one CF slot, you can't install both! The only other option would be to make use of the Smartmedia slot for the camera or 802.11b function, but I don't think that this is possible...
Anyone got any bright ideas about this? I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks

There are a few Pocket PCs that have integrated 802.11b and CompactFlash slots. They will solve your problem if you use a CompactFlash camera. However, expect these handhelds to be very expensive.

check out hp`s iPAQ 39++
You can get jackets for all you need.
The 3970 has bluetooth.
Otherwise the 5450 which has wlan also.
A camera is also available in jacket.
It will of course be a cost factor, the iPAQ´s are not cheap but therefore they are "still" the best.

I think the next model PPC phones will come with built in camera by year end.

I agree with the iPAQ route - especially as you can get a CF jacket that will allow you to connect 2 cards at a time - so a CF camera and a CF 802.11 card will be no problem!
Try somewhere like Expansys UK (http://www.expansys.co.uk) to price up the jackets.

Hp recently released the ipaq 2215 which has both an SDIO and a CF (type I and II) slot. The unit is $400 (cheaper than the 39xx and 54xx or 55xx series). It also has built in bluetooth. There is no need to buy expansion sleeves for this unit.

I have just got my Smartphone the Qtek 7070. I must say, it fits the name perfectly. It is smart alright. This device really puts most of the rest of the mobile phone brands to shame. They are so good at giving you all the gizmos with little utility value just to get you to change to the latest model. The Smartphone however, provides many utilities in a small package. Check this recent review out as well:

It is about time that mobile device vendors focused on applications rather than just giving us smaller and smaller devices or adding a mirror for you to check you lippy.
Oh yes, it comes with a number of PDA functions and a camera and an SD slot. Soon, we will give it m-Vision as well. Check out ww.m-vision.tv and you will know why.
And I got my Smartphone for nothing. I spend enough on calls I guess. This will in no time, I believe, become a mass consumer product.
