I would like to be able to create documents to be read by PalmReader. Is there any free or very cheap software to do this (preferably free)?

you can use MS Word on your PC, then use DocsToGo to convert it and sync with your Palm

Will this allow links? I would like to be able to set up a table of contents with hyperlinks.

Documents to Go has a place for bookmarks. I'm not sure if a table of contents can be made with links to these though.

There is a program called Drop Book I think. It's FREE and will convert .txt files into PalmReader E-books.
Try www.peanutpress.com

To get to the Make/Drop book program, Click on your area on residency when at www.peanutpress.com
Then press Make Books on the bar at the top of the page then follow the instructions.

There is a free desktop app called "doc reader"

with it you can read "palm doc" format in windows environment.

You can also create new palm docs simply by performing copy+paste from window to window.

Then, simply send the newly created .pdb file to the pda via the palm "install tool" for example.

I rather use this app when its a "read only" file. Docs to Go would always spend me time syncing the doc at every hotsync I woud do.

Greetings,
Francisco;)

Not quite free, but really good, is Express Reader DX by Qvadis (http://www.qvadis.com). Lots of tools, like a purpose-built editor (no need to transfer your file back and forth between Word), autobookmarking, and more.

try the Handstory suite, it will allow you to make simple 'docs' on the fly, it will copy text from source into a 'doc' and some other really nice options to,, for hyperlinks you may want to try 'isolo'

(look for it at palmgear)

Why not use Acrobat for Palm? It can convert your desktop PDF document to palm PDF format which you can view using Acrobat's palm readre ;)

It supports link too :D

Unfortunately Acrobat for the Palm OS doesn't always display things properly. I used it to try to carry the schedules for our local transit system in Boston and when I opened it on my Clie it was all messed up, and essentially useless.

Looking for much the same thing, I ended up making web pages that were linked, and then converting them with iSiloX. You have to use the iSilo reader which is not free, but has some great features and is generally reliable at displaying the document the way you want it.

Good luck with it.
