Love this Palm! Though a few things:
Along with all it's WONDERFUL features and crisp color:
1) I've been using Grafitti for years and have mastered it. I would have preferred they didn't add Graffiti 2.
2) Would be great if it had on and charge indicator lights.
3) Would be nice if it had a utility that moves files to/from the card. Is there one available?
4) Love the joystick navigator on the front. This very definitely beats the Tungsten-T's navigator. And leaves Sony's navigator in the dust.
Question: I cannot seem to find a program on my Zire 71 that allows me to move files to/from my SD Card. Is there one available that can do this?
Design Flaw: The free case that comes with this unit is too tight. That is, when I insert my Zire 71 in it, it activates the joystick and the power comes on. I'm sure in time all the case makers will catch on to this.
Again, love the Zire 71!

I experienced the same "on in case" problem with my Zire 71. I visited a few other message boards and found a couple of answers.
1. Putting the Z71 into the case upside down seems to help.
2. Download a program call StayOn 4.0 (standalone version). I believe this can be found at: www.palmgear.com
I've used both these methods and they do seem to take care of the problem. For some other good info you might visit www.palminfocenter.com
Now, if we could just get Vaja to make a custom case for the Zire 71.......
By the way, anyone know where to buy additional stylus ?

Hi,
Thanks for your tips. I'll certainly look into them!
As for the Zire / 71 stylus go to eBay. There's a number of them. Here's a link for a cool 3 in 1 stylus:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3021256478&category=27968
Otherwise on eBay search for "Zire stylus."

For the copy utility on my m130, you go to the home page, tap menu, and select copy. How are the pictures and battery life?

Hi,
The screen and pictue display on the Zire 71 is absolutely excellent. Last week, I was at Circuit City and held the Tungsten T and Zire 71 side by side. I found the Zire 71's display to be far superior. Plus it's an easy handheld to use. Thus, I chose that one.
The picture display is wonderful. It comes with 3 pix: GG Bridge, Lake, and a Poppy. Look beautiful. Then I added my own picture and it's wonderfully displayed on the Zire Z1.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm still looking for a utility that "moves" (not copies) to/from the expansion card. The Zire 71 only has copy. You or anyone know of one available?
Thanks :)
the display is hands down the nicest display ive ever seen on a handheld (ppc or palm or sony or whatever)!

MZephyr -
I checked the eBay link you mentioned. That was for the Zire. When I was in Staples, and looked at the stylus with the Zire, it didn't appear that it was the same style as the Zire 71. Has anyone tried this stylus in the Z71 silo ?

Hi Cindy_Messmore,
Thanks for the reply. I assumed that is the stylus, because palm.com shows the Zire and Zire 71's to be one and the same. Perhaps, perhaps not.
With the stylus, Vaja Cases, etc. It's all a matter of time until accessories become available for the Zire 71. That is very much the case. Usually the handheld is released and about 1+ month later, more and more accessories will be availiable for it. I just hope the case makes take the navagator at the bottom of the handheld into accout.
Also, I tried finding StayOn...I'm not having luck. I do find a StayOn hack for the Treo. And I find a StayOn program for Windows. Do you happen to know where I can find StayOn (standalone) for the palm?
Much appreciation,
Michael
like someone else said, just put the palm in screen first instead of joystick first...that solves everything real fast:)

Michael, I am so embarrassed .... (Duh !) the program is called StayOff 4.0 and it is on palmgear.com I am soooo sorry to have caused you to waste time looking for the wrong program.

Thank You Cyndy,
I just found and purchased it! Wish Palm would have incorporated this into the 71.
Also, I purchased MegaLauncher. Terrific launcher program and it's color is absolutely stunning on the 71.

Michael

Have you tried Filez. It is freeware and available on Palmgear.
Palm boy,
I read that the stylus was a toothpick also but mine on my z71 isn't even close to one. I love it a lot. It's defintiley nicer than my dell axim stylus, and also nicer than my dads compaq ipaq 3850 stylus. It is completely round, has a nice smooth tip, and feels to be just the right size. The only stylus I have ever seen that is better than this is the palm tungsten Ts (that one that pops out). That is one awesome stylus. But other than that one, this stylus is really great and at least as good as any other one I could find at circuit city or with the ppcs I've personally messed with.

All,
Thank you for your Handheld/Card moving information...sure appreciate it. Why couldn't Palm think this one further?

You need both of these freeware programs to spice up your Zire 71.
Filez - for moving and managing your programs from the internal and external memory. Moves files back and forth smoothly and has a back-up function as well.
Colorize - allows you to change the default screen colors on your handheld. It comes with preset themes or you can create your own color combinations. Very easy to use and give your handheld a more personal touch.
Enjoy,

I looked on palmgear for Colorize. It was not there. A different program is called sprypaint.

Hi Palm Boy and others,
I went poking around for this kind of program...and found it on Handango. Good news..Handango says it's freeware. It's called Khroma.
Here's the URL...enjoy!

With OS 5.2, you're supposed to be able to select color schemes on the device without additional software. I was able to do that with a unit I played with at Staples.

I believe that Palm OS 5.2 already has this feature. I was able to change the themes with the Zire 71 at both Best Buy and Circuit City. It is a neat feature.

I did not realize that OS 5.2 has the color theme editor built in.
It is a very nice program,
Enjoy!

You should open the Preferences application. One of the sections is about themes.

here are the links for colorize & filez as previsously mentioned
http://www.freewarepalm.com/graphics/colorize.shtml
http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/filez.shtml
You can also use YiShow to move files between Z71 and SD card. It can do drag and drop. If you want extra stylus I've been using some from a M125 three pack I got at CompUSA. Fits nicely into the Z71 slot.

I bought these styluses (incipio) and they DO NOT fit the Zire71 all that well. The barrel thickness is the same, so they fit into the silo, but the are a bit too long and stick out. I wouldn't recommend them.
