I heard once about a sw which might have been able to manage the ericsson mobile phones directory from a 5mx.
yesterday I saw a friend of mine who has a mc 218 and couldn't help but notice he had a program installed in the rom which should do something like that.
does anybody know whether you can find such a sw and install it on the 5mx or nB?

I think PhoneMan Pro should do what you are wanting:

I haven't used it, since I too have an MC218 ;)

thank you julie for your reply.
i'll have a look at the links during the day.
the product i am looking for was actually included into the last ericsson sh 888 package as a cd rom.
i would like to know whether there is a chance to download this program somewhere in the net

Howse about someone with an MC218 extracting the c: (or z:) \System\App folder for the application that does this (what's it called anyway?), zipping it up and posting it here?

That said, I have a 5mx and nB, and I use Phoneman Pro. Okay so its not free, but I'm pretty sure it is much better featured than the Ericsson app...

It has the exciting title "My Phone"

I'll have a go at extracting it - don't hold your breath, Cangiante!

Right, here's the file - see what you make of it - extracted from Z:\System\App.

I'm not quite sure about transferring it to 5mx or nB. Yan? Had a quick attempt with the nB - it comes up with the My Phone icon on the extras bar, but doesn't open, just says "Corrupt". Same result with the Revo. I'm probably doing it wrong.

Maybe it really is Ericsson specific. May have a better chance on the 5mx, I don't know.

Aargh! The file is too large to attach, even zipped. Cangiante, send me an e-mail via PDAStreet and I'll e-mail it back to you.

ah. yes.

The problem is that when compiling EPOC apps, one must choose whether the app is to 'run in place' or 'copy to memory'. This means that apps installed on C (RAM) can be run straight out of their install location, whereas apps installed in Z (ROM) need to be copied into RAM before they will run.

Obviously a 'run in place' application will fail if its installed into ROM, but I had vague hopes that a 'copy to memory' app would still work (albeit a bit less efficiently) if installed in RAM. Evidently I have hoped in vain.

Yan, do you want a copy of it to try? Or do you think it's definitely a non-starter?

I interesting view this test, i failure try-out.

Applications written to run from the ROM cannot be run from the "C" or "D" drive of a different machine by copying the files. This has always been the case with Psions - I recall the attempts to run 3c applications, such as Jotter, on a 3a and it just doesn't work. With EPOC you'll probably get the "Not Found" error message.

thank you all for your comments.
i've just downloaded the zipped file that netbookbabe has sent me and i am going to try it tomorrow.
anyway, i am sure that ericsson included a program like that - which definitely was designed to work with the 5mx - into a cd which was in the latest packages of the glorious ericsson sh 888.
should anybody happen to have this cd or know where on internet you can download the file, might write a post here.
